A GPS-equipped watch can handle time-zone changes without relying on a smartphone, but fitting satellite reception, solar charging, and multiple displays into an analog case presents a challenge. Those components require space, which can make a travel watch larger than some buyers want for everyday wear.

Seiko addressed those constraints with its 2026 Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph collection. Announced in May and available from June 2026, the HAB001, HAB002, and HAB003 combine the Caliber 5X63 movement with a redesigned titanium case, a two-piece bezel, and a tool-free strap attachment system.
The design goes beyond appearance. Seiko has revised how the dial, bezel, and bracelet accommodate the watch’s electronic components while retaining the functions that distinguish the Astron from a conventional quartz watch.
A Resin Dial Designed Around Solar Charging
The HAB001’s blue-gray dial illustrates one of the challenges of solar-powered watch construction. Light must reach the solar cell beneath the dial, limiting the materials and finishes that can be used without interfering with charging.

Seiko uses semitransparent resin with a repeating triangular pattern molded into its surface. Fine circular markings add texture, while the geometric design changes in appearance as light moves across the dial.
The material allows light to pass through to the solar cell, while the patterned surface provides an alternative to a plain dial. Three subdials organize the watch’s chronograph and dual-time functions.
Applied hour markers and prominent hands complete the analog layout.
A Two-Piece Titanium Bezel Changes the Case Profile
The Astron’s internal components influence its case construction. The solar cell, GPS antenna, and necessary clearances limit how the crystal and bezel can be positioned.
For these models, Seiko introduced its first two-piece octagonal titanium bezel in the Astron collection. The upper octagonal section is separate from the surrounding ring, changing the bezel’s profile compared with the taller single-piece construction used previously.

Brushed surfaces on the upper section contrast with polished edges, emphasizing the angular design.
Seiko says the lower-profile bezel reduces visual bulk and creates a lower-center-of-gravity feel on the wrist. That describes the intended wearing impression rather than a reduction in the watch’s stated dimensions.
Titanium Construction With Contrasting Finishes
The HAB001 and HAB002 use titanium cases and bracelets. Titanium is lighter than stainless steel and offers corrosion resistance, making it suitable for a relatively large watch intended for regular wear.
The case combines brushed surfaces with polished edges. Its three-link bracelet uses shaped outer links to follow the case’s ridge lines, while the bracelet tapers toward the clasp.
The watches measure 43.4mm in diameter, 12.4mm thick, and 50mm from lug to lug. These dimensions remain important for buyers who prefer smaller watches, regardless of the material used.

Seiko applies a super-hard coating to improve scratch resistance, although the treatment doesn’t make the surface scratchproof. The sapphire crystal has a separate Super-Clear coating designed to reduce reflections.
A Tool-Free System for Changing Straps
The quick-change attachment system allows compatible bracelets and straps to be removed without conventional spring-bar tools. A protected release button on the back of the case disengages the attachment.

A guard helps prevent accidental operation, while a 12H marking identifies the correct orientation. An audible and tactile click indicates that the attachment has engaged.
Seiko offers compatible black and white silicone straps separately, allowing owners of bracelet-equipped models to change their wearing configuration.
These attachments are designed for the new system rather than universal replacement straps. Buyers should confirm compatibility before purchasing additional straps.
Caliber 5X63 Provides the Travel Functions
All three models use Seiko’s GPS Solar Caliber 5X63. It supports satellite-assisted time synchronization, time-zone adjustment, dual-time display, and a chronograph that measures elapsed time in 1/20-second increments for up to 24 hours.
A time-transfer function allows the main and secondary time displays to exchange positions. The movement also includes a perpetual calendar, a power reserve indicator, and a power-saving mode.

Seiko specifies approximately six months of operation after a full charge, extending to about two years in power-saving mode. Without GPS reception, its rated accuracy is plus or minus 15 seconds per month at temperatures between 41°F and 95°F.
Satellite reception requires suitable conditions, and time-zone changes may require manual selection when regional rules or daylight-saving arrangements change. The watch does not continuously track its wearer’s location.
Three Models Starting at $2,600
The HAB001 pairs a blue-gray dial with a titanium bracelet, while the HAB002 combines a black dial with a titanium bracelet. Both have a U.S. list price of $2,700.
The HAB003 uses a black silicone strap with gold-colored accents and costs $2,600. All three share the same 43.4mm case diameter, Caliber 5X63 movement, sapphire crystal, and 10-bar water resistance.

The three regular-production models went on sale in June 2026. Prices and availability may vary between authorized retailers.
Who Should Buy the Redesigned Seiko Astron?
These three Astron GPS Solar models are suited to frequent travelers who want satellite-assisted timekeeping, a second time-zone display, and solar charging in an analog watch. The titanium bracelet models provide a traditional sports-watch configuration, while the HAB003 offers a silicone strap at a slightly lower price.

Buyers who prefer compact cases or uncluttered dials may find the 43.4mm dimensions and multiple displays less appealing. Those who rarely travel may also have limited use for the GPS time-zone functions.

You don’t have to give up an analog dial to get a watch that keeps up with your travels. These Astrons pair GPS timekeeping with solar charging, then give you a choice of titanium bracelet or silicone strap. At 43.4mm, they’re still substantial watches. If that size suits you, the bigger decision is whether you want the blue-gray HAB001, the black HAB002, or the gold-accented HAB003.
