A porch light already has power. The Wyze Bulb Cam Pan Color puts that connection to work for a 2.5K camera that can turn to follow people, pets and vehicles, while still lighting the entrance. You don’t need to run a separate camera cable or recharge a battery, but you do need the right fixture and a switch that stays on.
The new model launched on October 22 at $99.98 for a single unit. Its appeal isn’t simply hiding a camera in a bulb. Motorized pan and tilt let it change its view after installation, and the light can use different settings for an ordinary evening and a motion event.

Check the fixture, not just the socket
The camera screws into a standard E26 socket with continuous 120V AC power. That doesn’t make every porch lantern compatible. The fixture must be open, with enough room for the camera and a clear view below its bottom edge. A fully enclosed fixture won’t work.
A telescoping section helps position the lens below the shade, and a socket adapter is included. Measure your fixture before ordering rather than assuming that a familiar screw base guarantees a fit. The fixture guide explains the open-bottom requirement.
Shut off power before replacing the existing bulb, following the installation instructions. Once it’s installed and powered, the wall switch needs to remain on. An included switch cover helps prevent someone from accidentally cutting power to both the camera and light.
Lighting adjustments happen in the Wyze app. Don’t put this model on a wall dimmer. For outdoor placement, the camera portion has an IP65 rating, while the bulb is rated for damp locations. The socket and adapter still need protection from direct water; the camera’s rating doesn’t make the entire installation waterproof.
A moving camera and separately controlled light

The camera captures 2560 × 1440 video and can pan through 360 degrees and tilt through 180 degrees. Automatic tracking follows people, pets and vehicles without a subscription. You can also steer the view in the app or set waypoints for areas you check regularly.
That gives a fixed porch socket a more flexible viewpoint, although it can’t see through the fixture around it. Placement comes before the tracking feature: a deep shade that blocks the lens remains an obstruction when the camera turns.
The light produces up to 1,100 lumens, with adjustable white light from 1800K to 6500K and RGB color choices. Ambient Light and Motion Light have separate schedules, colors and brightness settings. You could keep a softer entrance light in the evening, then use a brighter setting when movement is detected, without leaving the light at its maximum setting all night.
Dual-band Wi-Fi supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, including Wi-Fi 6. Setup uses Bluetooth through the Wyze app.
Local recording and cloud alerts are separate choices

A separately purchased microSD card supports continuous local recording, with cards up to 512GB in exFAT format. That recording option doesn’t require a subscription. Cam Plus is required for cloud event storage and AI notifications, so free automatic tracking shouldn’t be confused with free access to every AI feature.
Privacy Mode turns the lens inward and stops microphone recording. When you switch the mode off, the camera returns to its previous position.

The Bulb Cam Pan Color makes the most sense when an existing open light fixture already overlooks the area you want to monitor. If the shade blocks that view, or the household routinely switches that circuit off, choose the camera’s mounting position independently of the porch light instead.
