Design and features
The Elegear Beach Tent Sun Shelter is a lightweight sun shelter that is easy to carry, weighing only 4.6 pounds. Setup is fairly easy and utilizes a central drawstring to pop out the panels like an umbrella. A word of caution on setup. You need to make sure that you spread the panels out a bit before deploying further as the internal poles and joints that it uses are a bit flimsy. You can see the center drawstring in the picture below and as you pull the string it causes the inner poles to spread out.
Each side of this sun shade has sand anchors that you can fill with sand to weigh down the tent and keep it from blowing away.
The front of the tent has a blanket that spreads out to give you a patio space. The material is very soft and is sand and water-proof. Sand shakes off easily and water just beads up on the surface and wipes off easily. You can see the four internal bars that make up the inner structure of the tent here as well. There are two additional poles that come to provide some structure and support on the left and right sides. Those come separately and tuck into little pockets in the corners.
As you can see in the picture above and below, the window panels open up to allow air flow, but can be closed in the corners.

Performance
We threw this sun shelter in the back of a pickup truck and it rode back there for a few hours on the way to the beach. In just that trip, the bag got a bit scuffed up, so it’s not a heavy-duty fabric, and you need to protect it a bit more.
The included stakes are pretty useless in sand, so save them for use in the ground on a lawn or where there is more to grip.
The tent did struggle a bit in a stiff wind that came up and I had to tip it over until the wind died down to prevent it from breaking any of the poles.
Final thoughts
I really like the weight and portability of this tent, but I’m a bit concerned about the longevity of the internal poles and fabric after regular use. The tent does well to block the sun and provide a space to get some shade and off of the sand. It looks good and is handy to have for a day at the beach, but the quality of the materials gives me pause.
What I like about the Elegear Beach Tent Sun Shelter
- Quick deploy and take-down with the central drawstring is nice
- The patio area fabric is nice and sheds sand and water well
What needs to be improved?
- The quality of the internal poles needs to be improved, especially at the joints
- More durable fabric on the carry bag
