SCRIVEINER 1

REVIEW – The Scriveiner Black Green Fountain Pen is from a manufacturer that claims to be “UK’s leading luxury pen brand”. These Brits use some German parts, and wisely so. The Black Green Fountain Pen is available in several finishes and with the Schmidt nib, and ink converter, it is like writing with a pen three times its price.

Design and features

This lacquered finish, brass fountain pen by Scriveiner is a very smooth writer on a variety of papers. Its line is bold without qualifying as ‘wide’ on most papers. Cheap paper is likely to show feathering and bleed-through to the back of the page, but that is expected with such paper.

The cap pushes on with a satisfying snap, and pulls off. It has an appropriate fit and will not accidentally come off. Fit and finish of this Scriveiner Fountain Pen seems perfect. There is no rattle or play of any parts during carry or use.

Setup

The ink converter comes installed in the pen. I flush new fountain pens with water and a couple of drops of mild dishwashing liquid soap, repeat the process with clear water to rinse, shake the water out of the pen, blot the water from all sides of the nib with a paper towel and then fill the converter while it is attached to the pen. I know some who remove the converter and fill it with ink, then replace it into the pen. I instead immerse the nib in the ink and draw it up into the converter. I like to leave the converter permanently in place vs. risking a weakening of its seal by constant removal and replacement.

Performance

This section can be brief, because the Scriveiner Black Green Fountain Pen was a perfect performer in my testing. It wrote more smoothly than my other fountain pens and never leaked during use or carry.

I don’t post the cap at the end of the pen when I write but for those who do, the cap of the Scriveiner Fountain Pen holds on securely during writing.

SCRIVEINER 4

As you can see I like some fat pens but the Scriveiner Fountain Pen was comfortable in my hand and didn’t feel too skinny. The Scriveiner Black Green Fountain Pen is underneath the group, and the Scriveiner EDC Fountain Pen is at the top.

What I like about the Scriveiner Black Green Fountain Pen

  • Writes smoothly on a variety of paper
  • Beautiful color, professional fit, finish and operation
  • Great value at the price

What needs to be improved?

  • Nothing at all

The Amazon link is to a Scriveiner ROLLER PEN, which is why I suppose the price is so much better than at Scriveiner. When I search Amazon I find only Racing Green Fountain pens, also at $45.99.

The fountain pen at $45 does get very good reviews on Amazon however.

    1. The Amazon link I should have referred to shows over 10,000 reviews and it tallies to 4.7 out of 5 stars. One doesn’t see much better than that on Amazon.

I got one and it is a good looking, nicely writing fountain pen (but nothing like a Waterman or Mont Blanc). Also the external box states “Designed in England for Scriveiner USA” and “Made in China”so is not a British made product.
