VMS3 01NEWS – VanMoof has been redefining commuter bikes since 2009 and the newest iteration of their S3 ebike sets the bar even higher. Launched earlier this week, improvements are to be found throughout the bike. The below cut-away image shows the level of tech embedded in the top tube of the bike.

Throughout the design attention to detail is evident as in the cleanliness of the rear brake caliper being nested inside the rear triangle protecting it from your heels.

The integrated headlight shown here on their new X3 model means you’re never without a light, or the ability to be seen by others.

The S3 is a more traditional step over design with 28″ wheels, while the X3 has a lower top tube with more of a utility look and 24″ wheels.

Both the S3 and X3 models are available in the dark or light colors shown above in a single-size-fits-most offering to keep things ultra simple. All the details are available at VanMoof with prices starting at $1,998 before any desired accessories. Get out and ride!

  2. The S3 looks a lot like the Ström City Bike with its integrated head and tail light. But Ström’s bike has a removable battery, gears, and a much lower price. The removable battery is especially useful as I can take it to my office to charge when commuting.

  3. “One size fits most” is diametrically opposed to bicycle basics, in that the bike must fit the rider. For $1998, any moderately-capable bike wrench can build an e-bike to fit its rider, and with more features. Mine, on the drawing board right now due to finances, is a ‘limousine lowrider’ with springer front suspension, 7 speeds, and front disc brakes…for $600 less. Removable battery and lights for easy charging, as well.

    A Walmart-level e-bike at a boutique price? Pass.
