GMT watches often announce their purpose with numbered bezels and sporty cases. The Seiko Presage Cocktail Time SSK049 takes a quieter approach: it puts a second-time-zone display in a dressier watch with a decorative dial, polished stainless-steel case, and leather strap.

Priced at $625 in the U.S., the SSK049 uses Seiko’s automatic Caliber 4R34 and a separate 24-hour hand to track another time zone. It keeps the Cocktail Time character, though its size, Hardlex crystal, and 5-bar water resistance are worth weighing against sportier GMT alternatives.

The 4R34 gives you a second time zone

The SSK049’s Caliber 4R34 is an automatic movement that can also be wound manually. Alongside the conventional hour, minute, and seconds hands, it has a separate 24-hour hand that you can set to display another time zone.

There is an important distinction if you plan to travel with it: the 4R34 is not a traveler-style GMT movement with an independently jumping local-hour hand. Its adjustable 24-hour hand is well suited to keeping an eye on the time where colleagues or family live. If you frequently change time zones and want to reset local time quickly after landing, a traveler-style GMT may be more convenient.

Seiko specifies 24 jewels, a stop-seconds function, a date display, and approximately 41 hours of power reserve when fully wound.

Cocktail Time styling, GMT function

Rather than putting a numbered GMT bezel around the dial, Seiko incorporates the 24-hour display into the Presage Cocktail Time design. The extra function is present without making the watch look like a conventional sports GMT.

That is the SSK049’s appeal: it offers mechanical dual-time functionality while keeping the decorative dial and dressier character that draw buyers to the Cocktail Time collection in the first place.

Check the dimensions before buying

The stainless-steel case measures 40.5mm in diameter, 47.5mm lug-to-lug, and 12.8mm thick. Those are worth noting if “dressier” makes you picture a small, slim watch. Without wearing the SSK049, its measurements are a better guide than any claim about how it will sit on your wrist.

A box-shaped Hardlex crystal protects the dial. Hardlex is Seiko’s hardened mineral crystal, not sapphire, so buyers who consider a sapphire crystal essential should factor that into the $625 price.

A leather strap with room to change

Seiko supplies the SSK049 on a cow-leather strap with a three-fold clasp and push-button release. Quick-release spring bars make the strap easier to remove, while the 20mm lug width gives buyers plenty of replacement-strap options.

A see-through screw caseback offers a view of the automatic movement.

Everyday watch, not adventure GMT

The SSK049 is rated for 5-bar water resistance and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance. Its 5-bar rating falls within Seiko’s guidance for swimming, though the supplied leather strap makes it a less practical choice for regular water use than a sports watch on a water-friendly strap.

Seiko lists the SSK049 as “New,” without identifying it as a 145th Anniversary Limited Edition or giving a production quantity.

Who is the SSK049 for?

The Presage Cocktail Time SSK049 is for someone who wants to keep track of a second time zone but would rather wear a dressier watch than a sports GMT. Its decorative dial, leather strap, and understated approach to the 24-hour display make that choice clear.

The trade-offs are just as clear: Hardlex instead of sapphire, approximately 41 hours of power reserve, 5-bar water resistance, and no independently jumping local-hour hand. If travel convenience or sports-watch toughness comes first, look elsewhere. If Cocktail Time styling is the priority and a second time zone is a useful addition, the SSK049 makes a compelling case for itself.
