The new Casio G-Shock DW-5600BEP-9 BlackEyePatch does not try to reinvent that formula. Instead, Casio’s third collaboration with Tokyo streetwear label BlackEyePatch turns the familiar DW-5600 into a gold-and-black statement piece, complete with an engraved caseback and special packaging.
It is still unmistakably a square G-Shock. This edition is simply aimed at people who want that durability in a much less understated package.
Gold-and-Black Styling Is the Upgrade
Anyone expecting a new movement, smartphone connectivity, solar charging, or radio-controlled timekeeping should adjust expectations. The DW-5600BEP-9 is primarily a design collaboration.
The bezel and band use gold-tone finishes, while the black face creates a sharp contrast around the digital display. Casio describes the look as combining sharpness and playfulness while reflecting the hip-hop culture that BlackEyePatch identifies with.
The collaboration goes beyond simply putting a logo on an existing dial. BlackEyePatch branding is engraved into the caseback, and the watch arrives in specially designed packaging.
BlackEyePatch’s history also helps explain the direction. The Tokyo label began by creating and placing its signature labels and stickers around cities in 2013, before launching a full apparel collection in 2015. Its designer remains anonymous, and the brand has since expanded into projects including photo books and art shows.
For someone primarily interested in new G-Shock technology, none of that changes the watch’s basic capabilities. For a BlackEyePatch collector, however, those details are the point.
Underneath, It Is Still a Proper DW-5600
Keeping the established DW-5600 platform means the collaboration retains the practical strengths people expect from a G-Shock.
The case measures 48.9 x 42.8 x 13.4mm and the watch weighs 53 grams. Casio uses resin and bio-based resin for the case and bezel, while the band is made from bio-based resin. The listed compatible wrist range is 145 to 205mm.
More importantly, the watch keeps G-Shock’s shock-resistant construction and 200-meter water resistance. Those specifications make it considerably more useful around water and rough everyday use than many watches made primarily as fashion collaborations.
The crystal is mineral glass rather than sapphire. That distinction is worth noting because the more elaborate appearance and collaboration branding do not turn this into one of G-Shock’s premium-material models.
Casio rates battery life at approximately five years. There is no Tough Solar charging system, so the watch will eventually need a battery replacement.
The Functions Stay Deliberately Simple
The feature set is classic digital G-Shock.
The stopwatch measures in 1/100-second increments during the first hour and continues timing for up to 24 hours. A countdown timer can also be set for as long as 24 hours, offers one-second measurement, and supports auto-repeat.
There is a multi-function alarm and hourly time signal, along with Casio’s flash-alert function. The display illumination can flash in coordination with alarms, the hourly signal, and the countdown timer.
Casio also equips the watch with a white LED Super Illuminator with afterglow, a full auto-calendar, and selectable 12- or 24-hour timekeeping. Accuracy is specified at ±15 seconds per month.
None of those features makes the DW-5600BEP-9 substantially more capable than the established DW-5600 formula. That is an important distinction because the appeal comes from how the watch packages those familiar capabilities, not from a breakthrough in function.
Who Is the DW-5600BEP-9 For?
The obvious audience is someone who already likes the DW-5600 but finds standard black versions too anonymous.
BlackEyePatch fans have the strongest reason to choose this edition. The collaboration-specific color scheme, engraved caseback, and custom packaging give it a stronger identity than a regular-production square.
It also makes sense for someone who wants a streetwear-oriented watch without giving up the durability that makes a G-Shock useful. You still get shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, an estimated five-year battery life, stopwatch and timer functions, and the familiar square format.
In Japan, Casio lists the DW-5600BEP-9JR at ¥19,800 including tax, with an October 2026 release. International timing varies: Casio’s international product page lists November 2026, while the UK site currently lists the model at £130 and asks buyers to sign up for availability updates.
