Design and features
This is a very little, portable carbon monoxide detector. It has a battery life of just under 6 days on a full charge, so you still need to remember to charge the device and keep it topped off. It’s very lightweight and is easy to strap on a bag or attach to a metal surface via the built-in battery on the back.
In addition to carbon monoxide, it also measures the temperature and humidity level of the air. Kind of a nice bonus feature, in my opinion.
This is a very simple gadget. No WiFi or Bluetooth. Just charge it up and it does its thing.
Setup
Plug the monitor into an available USB-C charger and charge it up. Easy peasy.
Performance
One of the most difficult things in reviewing this device was finding a good source of carbon monoxide to detect. I tried near the vent on our gas water heater, but it didn’t measure anything there. (Picture up above)
I tried measuring above our lit gas stove, but I wasn’t able to measure anything there either.
Those results aren’t too disappointing, because that actually means that they’re functioning efficiently and are calibrated correctly. While I couldn’t get a reading on the monitor, that’s much safer for those in my house.
My wife is actually the one who reminded me of our biggest carbon monoxide emitters: our cars! I’m not sure why I didn’t remember that, but that turned out to be a much more effective way to test the monitor. I immediately got a read and could see it start to measure some CO.
I even noticed that when the car first started the levels were much higher than when it had been on for a while and warmed up. That makes sense because the combustion process is definitely less efficient when the engine is cold.
Final thoughts
When all was said and done, I was impressed by this little carbon monoxide monitor. I can definitely see some great applications for using it, especially while camping in an RV or working in hazardous environments. I just read about a tragic accident in Utah where someone passed away due to carbon monoxide poisoning and something like this would have definitely caught that. I would definitely recommend this if you are in environments where that may be a concern.
