REVIEW – Working from home means a lot of sitting at a desk. This means it’s very important to me to have a comfortable chair. I’ve reviewed a few in the past, and all were comfortable to a point, but there was always something that kept them from being the right chair for me. So I opted to review the Vari ComfortFlex office chair in hopes of finding one. Let’s find out if it makes the grade.

Design and features

The first feature that got my attention is that the weight limit supported is 300 lbs. Now I don’t weigh that much, but I am a big guy, 6’6″ and 260 lbs. So it’s reassuring to know the chair is designed to support me.

Next is the mesh seat back, lumbar support, and headrest. It’s strong enough so it does not stretch too much, but gives enough so that it’s springy and comfortable. I have had a chair in the past that had a mesh lumbar support, and it stretched to the point my back pressed against the frame. It hurt. A lot. That chair didn’t last long. The mesh obviously helps with breathability, so my back doesn’t sweat from sitting too long. It’s nice to have that airflow.

Speaking of the lumbar support, the Vari ComfortFlex has a large dial on the rear to adjust its flex. There’s also a knob that can lock it into 1 of  3 different depths. Without it locked into one of those positions, the support springs forward and back with your movement.

The foam seat is wide enough for a large-framed person like me and has an adjustable seat depth. My long legs are appreciative of that feature.

The armrests are 4D, meaning they raise and lower as usual, and the cushions themselves slide forward, back, left, and right. They also turn in and out.

The backrest can raise and lower as well, allowing the user to get just the right height.

The headrest not only raises and lowers, but tilts as well.

Lastly, there’s a footrest, or in my case, a legrest. It extends out from under the seat, flips up, and then locks into place.

See that little knob there in the center? Turning it a half turn will unlock the foot rest to allow you to slide it all back under the seat.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

If you’ve ever put an office chair together, this one is no different. It’s a just turning a few hex screws, placing the lifterin the base, pop the wheels on, and plopping the seat on top.

Performance

Overall, the Vari ComfortFlex lives up to its name. I found it to be very comfortable. It’s sturdy and seems to be well-made. I read a review on their website where one person complained of it creaking while they used it. I haven’t had any creaks or groans from it in the month I’ve been using it, and like I’ve said, I’m a big guy. I like the breathability and flex of the mesh. I also like that I can have the lumbar support free-floating so that it moves back and forth with me as I change positions throughout the day. The seat is wide enough with a good foam base. I love the adjustability of the armrests, too. If I have any complaints, they are the wheels, the overall height, and the footrest.

The wheels work fine on hard surfaces but aren’t suited to carpet or rugs. As for the height, I would like to raise just a bit more. The footrest is pretty much useless to me. When I try to use it, it only catches the back of my calves. So much of my legs hang off that it’s not comfortable for me.

Final thoughts

I’m very happy with the Vari ComfortFlex office chair. One chair I reviewed in the past was fine for a while, but after a few months, it caused my hips to hurt after sitting too long. I also like the price point that Vari has given for the chair. Some of the “gaming” chairs out there are much more expensive and aren’t nearly as comfortable. For the number of features the ComfortFlex offers along with its price, I don’t think one could go wrong with it.
