NEWS – It’s being widely reported that Google has released the source code for the Pebble Watch. (Fitbit bought Pebble, Google bought Fitbit.) And who would pick up that ball and run with it but Eric Migicovsky, creator of the original Pebble.
In 2016 Pebble announced it was stopping operations. Their watches after the first generation didn’t catch on well enough for the company to continue.
Almost immediately, the ‘Rebble’ site was born, and enthusiasts have kept their Pebble watches alive since that time. Thanks to Google, Pebble watches can even pair with the Pixel 7 series phones.
Migicovsky believes the market will support a smartwatch that is easy to use, has an e-paper screen, and offers long battery life. We might expect programmable buttons as another blast from Pebble’s past. No concept artwork has been posted at this point.
I had the original Pebble smartwatch thanks to a not so subliminal suggestion by none other than Julie The Gadgeteer, who suggested, ‘Why not get one’?
I’ll be watching Pebble developments very closely.

As someone who still wears a Pebble and hasn’t seen anything since that fits that use case quite as well, I’m looking forward to seeing what they do.
We loved our Pebble watches! We’ll be very interested to see what they bring forth!
I loved my Pebbles. There has been nothing else like it since. I hope they come back, I’ll have one.
