friendship lamps 01NEWS – I have a friend who lives states away from me. When I saw the Friendship Lamps I thought it would be a wonderful way to let her know I’m thinking about her (in addition to keeping in touch via text or visits). When you tap on your lamp, the other lamp lights up simultaneously (no matter where they are in the world) and it slowly fades off in either a half hour, 1.5 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours according to the settings you set up in the Friendship Lamp app. How sweet is that?

The lamps connect to each person’s WiFi and by using the app, you can choose your favorite color from among 250 or you can choose colors to send a particular message. In addition to selecting the color, brightness, and timer settings, you can create groups and connect unlimited numbers of lamps to keep in touch with more friends or family.

The Friendship Lamps Mid-Century Knotty Alder Wood Design are such a lovely idea, but they’re a bit expensive being $212.50 on Amazon for a pair. Some Amazon reviewers have said that they had difficulty with the WiFi setup and problems with the lamps staying connected to WiFi. However, many have gotten them to work and love them!

The problem with this kind of products is, that they depend on a working webservice/API from the producing company. If they would go bankrupt in six month, resulting in the service stopping, you would have bought two very expensive but quite ordinary lights.
