SmartPlanet has a line of lunch containers that flatten up for compact carrying home after the lunch is eaten. More importantly for people with not much storage in the kitchen, they don’t take up a lot of storage space, either. The Collapsible Eco Meal Kits have BPA-free silicone bases that open to hold your food, then collapse flat to half the size. The bottom part of the container is dishwasher- and microwave-safe, but the tops aren’t safe for either. There are a variety of sizes and styles, so you can choose just what you need for the type of lunch you prefer. There are salad bowls with a toppings tray and a dressing container, a soup mug, a pizza slice container that can hold two slices, a travel bowl that fits in a car drink holder, and three sizes of meal kits with one, two, or three compartments and a condiment container built into the lid. All containers come with a double-ended spoon and fork utensil, and all containers are available in blue, orange, green, or pink. Prices vary from $8 for the bowl that fits in the drink holder to $18 for the 3-compartment meal container. You can order the Meal Kits directly from SmartPlanet, but I found the 3-compartment meal container at my local Bed Bath & Beyond store for $10.
