Don’t want to bother finding a TV and the correct cable to view those videos on your camcorder? Sony has a solution. The HDR-PJ50V camcorder is an HD Camcorder that records 1920 x 1080 Full HD 60p on a 220GB HDD and includes an integrated projector that can display up to a 60″ diagonal image.
The projector is only capable of 640 x 360 resolution and up to 10 lumens, but it is built-in to the camera. It’s that tiny little rectangle between the “HD” and “Sony”. Some of the other specs include:
- Wide-angle G lens (27.4mm focal length for photo, 29.8mm for video)
- 12x optical zoom
- 3″ touch screen display
- 5.1ch Surround mic
- USB cable for transfer and charging that fits in the hand strap
- Sony’s back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor
- Built-in GPS to record location
- Optical SteadyShot stabilization
- Mic and Headphone jack
- Direct copy to external HDD (no PC needed)
It’s full of all kinds of neat little features, including something called “Golf Shot” that takes super-slo-mo of your swing. I have to say, the ability to charge with the USB cable, and the fact that it integrates into the hand strap is a really big deal for me, I have WAY too many AC adapters, many of them Sony adapters. I also like the integrated GPS. It lists for $999.99, but is currently available at the SonyStyle store for $899.99.

Hey this feature of having projector built-in a camcorder is great. Yesterday i walked in sony shop to buy a camera and also stumbled upon a handycam which has projector feature. personally i think its cool to have this tech, like you shoot your videos and immediately get to see it. Infact i looked for more details and found many good uses in sony’s facebook user community. One user said that he would show his videos on billboard to popularise his social causes etc. sony has a contest to suggest innovative uses of this projector feature https://www.facebook.com/SonyIndia/app_104098299713273
Looks like a cool technology overall.
