Just about everyone who owns a mobile phone knows that sick feeling you get when you drop the device. It appears that Amazon founder, President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board, Jeffrey Bezos has experienced this as well. Earlier this year Bezos and Amazon VP Gregory Hart filed patent application 20110194230 which details a system that could use the device’s motion sensor and lasers to detect a potential fall and fire air jets, deploy springs and/or air bags to protect your device. Now, if someone can just find a way to seal up a device when you drop it in water…

Hey, it would be cheaper to strap your phone to the back of a cat. They always land on their feet when dropped.
