Citizen’s Sorcerer Mickey Eco-Drive marks 100 years of the Macy’s parade, and only 500 exist

Mickey Mouse hangs from balloon strings high over the Manhattan skyline, waving in his Sorcerer’s Apprentice robes. That’s the whole dial on Citizen’s Sorcerer Mickey 100th Anniversary Macy’s Parade watch (AW1696-03W), built for the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. One image carries the entire watch, and it works.

The run is small, and it’s already selling. Citizen capped the edition at 500 numbered pieces worldwide, with each number engraved on the case back. It’s $395, only at Macy’s and on Citizen’s own site, and Citizen’s store lists it in stock right now.

A parade balloon, frozen mid-flight

Disney artists John and Shelley Loter drew the dial art, and they packed a lot into 40 millimeters. Mickey dangles from his balloon strings in the red robe and pointed hat, one glove raised in a wave. A field of gold stars fills the sky around him, and the Manhattan skyline runs along the bottom in silhouette, streetlamps included.

Red and gold stars stand in for the hour markers. On paper that sounds like a gimmick. On the dial it keeps the picture clean, and clean is what this artwork needs. Gold hands sweep across the top, a slim gold chapter ring circles the art, and a small date window sits at 3 o’clock. Nothing fights Mickey for attention.

Mickey has flown in this parade since 1934

The pairing makes sense. Mickey first flew as a parade balloon in 1934, back when handlers in costume still walked the balloons down the route. He’s been a fixture over Central Park West and Herald Square ever since, which makes him the natural face of the parade’s 100th edition in 2026.

Citizen gets a milestone of its own out of this. Eco-Drive turns 50 this year, so the watch pairs a balloon that debuted in 1934 with the light-powered tech Citizen has been refining since 1976.

A 40mm case that keeps the art in charge

At 40mm across and a slim 9.29mm thick, the two-tone stainless steel case slides under a cuff and sits easy on smaller wrists. Polished silver carries most of the case, with a gold crown and gold dial accents picking up the stars. Too playful for a dress watch? In Citizen’s wrist shots it passes as a classic dress watch that happens to have a cartoon mouse flying across it.

A sapphire crystal covers the dial, which is real scratch protection instead of the basic mineral glass you’d expect at this price. Blue leather handles the strap work, color-matched to the night-sky dial, and a plain buckle closes it. Water resistance runs to 50 meters, rated for still-water swimming, so rain along the parade route won’t hurt it.

Your edition number is engraved on the back

Flip the watch over and the case back does the collector paperwork. Disney and Citizen logos sit above the Macy’s star, and your edition number is engraved under it, one of the 500. The rim confirms the spec sheet: Eco-Drive, sapphire crystal, stainless steel, 5 bar. It’s the side nobody sees on your wrist, and Citizen finished it like a certificate anyway.

Every watch ships in a custom gift box built for the anniversary, all red checkerboard and Mickey heads, with 100th Parade branding inside the lid. Plenty of these will be gifts before they’re collectibles. The box keeps the whole parade theme going from the shelf to the wrist.

Eco-Drive means the battery question never comes up

Inside sits Citizen’s J810 Eco-Drive movement, three hands and a date, powered by any light it can catch. Sunlight on a parade morning charges it. A desk lamp charges it. There’s no battery to swap and no winding routine to keep up with, which suits a watch people pull out every November. Citizen backs it with a five-year limited warranty.

Five hundred pieces won’t cover the parade route

Numbered Disney editions with real artwork and a sapphire crystal don’t usually land at $395, and this one stops hard at 500 pieces. Got a Disney collector on your gift list this year? Move while Macy’s and Citizen still show stock. A numbered run doesn’t get a second shipment.

Find it at Macy’s and at Citizen’s online store while the run lasts. When the 500 are gone, the parade moves on without it.
