Tivoli Audio put four new colors on the Model One BT and called the run the Naturals Collection. The colors are Sage, Angora, Eucalyptus and Ginger, they’re on sale now at Tivoli’s store, and each one costs $199.99. That’s $20 over the standard Model One BT, and the collection is a limited release. Tivoli hasn’t put a number on the run. When the stock’s gone, it’s gone.

The Model One is the radio that built Tivoli. Henry Kloss designed the original in 2000, and the shape hasn’t changed since: a handmade wood cabinet, one speaker, three knobs, and a big analog tuning dial. The BT version adds Bluetooth streaming to that radio and leaves the rest alone. This collection changes the colors and nothing else.

Four colors and two cabinets

Sage and Angora ship in oak cabinets. Eucalyptus and Ginger ship in white-painted cabinets, so the split runs two and two. The face colors carry the names: Sage is a muted green, Angora is a creamy off-white, Eucalyptus is a pale gray-green, and Ginger is a warm tan.

The cabinet split matters when you’re picking. Tivoli’s spec sheet lists the line as real wood veneer cabinets, and the oak Naturals keep that grain showing under the Sage and Angora faces. The Eucalyptus and Ginger models wear painted white cabinets instead, the smooth finish with no grain. Same box either way, two different pieces of furniture.

Paul DePasquale, Tivoli’s CEO and chief designer, pulled the palette from Japanese interiors he sees on his regular trips to Japan. The colors land where living rooms are heading anyway, away from cool grays and hard whites and toward muted greens, creams and earth tones. On a wood cabinet radio that’s been sitting on kitchen counters for 25 years, the new colors read as furniture first and electronics second.

The 70s Color Collection did the same job last year with five brighter finishes on the same radio, also in walnut cabinets. The Naturals set is the quieter version of that idea. Between the two collections and the six standard finishes, the Model One BT now comes in fifteen finishes, and every one of them is the same radio inside.

The radio underneath is the same one from 2000

The speaker is a single 3-inch full-range driver in a mono design, driven by 6 watts and a bass port. The tuner is analog AM/FM with the 5:1 ratio tuning dial that made the original’s reputation, the dial that pulls weak stations in clean. Bluetooth is 5.1. There’s no Wi-Fi, no app and no screen.

Around the back and sides it keeps the connections the original crowd still uses: a 3.5mm auxiliary input, a stereo headphone output, and a stereo REC OUT line-level output. The cabinet measures 8.375 inches wide, 5.25 inches tall and 4.5 inches deep, and the radio weighs 4.14 pounds. It runs on AC power. The box holds the radio, a manual, the power supply and an external FM antenna.

It’s a fixed radio, not a portable one. There’s no battery in the Model One BT, so it lives where it plugs in: a kitchen counter, a nightstand, a shop bench. That’s the trade against every rechargeable Bluetooth speaker at this price, and it’s also why these radios stay in houses for decades. Nothing in it wears out on a shelf.

That’s the whole product, and it’s been the whole product for a long time. The Model One sells on the tuner, the cabinet and the dial feel. Streaming boxes and smart speakers do more, and they look like plastic pucks doing it. Tivoli’s pitch for 25 years is that a radio can be a piece of furniture you keep, and the Naturals Collection is that pitch in four new colors.

What the colors cost

The standard Model One BT costs $179.99 at Tivoli in six finishes: Walnut Beige, Cherry Silver, Black Ash Silver, White Silver, Black Ash Black and Oak Black. The Naturals colors cost $199.99. The $20 buys the finish and the limited run. It buys nothing in the radio itself, and Tivoli doesn’t pretend otherwise. Same driver, same tuner, same Bluetooth, same cabinet dimensions.

The standard finish on Amazon

Amazon stocks the standard Model One BT, and the Walnut Beige finish was $157.99 there today with delivery showing for Tuesday. That’s $42 under the Naturals price for the identical radio in the finish that’s been selling since the BT version launched. The Naturals colors aren’t on Amazon. They’re a Tivoli-store release.

So the choice is simple. Pick a Naturals color if the radio’s going to sit somewhere it gets looked at, because that’s what the $20 and the limited run are for. Pick the standard finish if it isn’t, and put the savings toward records. Either way you’re getting the same Kloss radio, and it’ll still be on the counter long after the limited colors sell out.
