Crossing time zones usually means resetting your watch, unless you wear something that handles the adjustment for you. Seiko’s upcoming Astron GPS Solar HAB009J1 and HAB010J1 offer a different approach from a smartwatch: analog displays, satellite-assisted timekeeping, and solar charging inside black titanium cases.

Scheduled for release in November 2026, each model is limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide. They share the same movement and core specifications, with green and burgundy dials providing two distinctly different looks.

Crystal-inspired dials meet black titanium

Seiko drew inspiration from the brilliance of crystals hidden inside dark rock. Both watches combine a textured dial with a multifaceted bezel and contrasting metallic accents.

The HAB009J1 pairs a green dial with yellow-gold-colored details, while the HAB010J1 uses burgundy with pink-gold-colored accents. Mirror-polished bracelet center links provide another contrast against the black titanium construction. Each watch also carries an individual serial number on its caseback.

The colors are the main distinction between the two models. Neither offers a movement or feature advantage over the other.

GPS timekeeping for international travel

Both watches use Seiko’s Caliber 5X63 GPS Solar movement. It receives satellite signals for time synchronization and time-zone adjustment, reducing the need to set the hands manually when traveling.

There is an important distinction, though: automatic time adjustment is not the same as automatic time-zone switching. After changing regions, owners can initiate GPS time-zone adjustment to establish the local time. Reception conditions still matter, so this should not be understood as a watch that continuously tracks your location or changes zones the instant you land.

The movement includes a world-time function covering 38 cities and a dual-time display for keeping another location in view. A time-transfer function swaps the main-dial and sub-dial times, a useful feature when moving between home and destination time.

Without GPS reception, Seiko specifies accuracy of ±15 seconds per month at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C.

Solar charging instead of a charging cable

The Astron’s solar-powered movement converts light into electrical energy, eliminating the need for routine cable charging.

Seiko rates the operating reserve at approximately six months on a full charge, or about two years in power-saving mode. Those are manufacturer specifications rather than results from our own testing, and keeping the watch adequately exposed to light remains part of ownership.

The 5X63 also includes a day display, a power-reserve indicator, and a perpetual calendar programmed through February 28, 2100. Its chronograph measures elapsed time in 1/20-second increments for up to 24 hours.

Titanium cases with a substantial footprint

Both models measure 43.4mm across, 12.4mm thick, and 50mm lug-to-lug. The titanium cases have a black super-hard coating, while sapphire crystals with Seiko’s Super-Clear coating help reduce reflections. LumiBrite on the hands and indexes supports readability in the dark.

The 50mm case length is worth considering alongside the diameter, particularly for buyers who prefer compact watches. These are substantial-looking travel watches rather than understated dress pieces.

Other details include 10-bar water resistance and an easy-adjust, three-fold bracelet clasp with push-button release. An additional calf-leather strap is included, with a quick-change system for switching between strap and bracelet.

Seiko describes the supplied leather strap as Leather Working Group-certified. Its accompanying explanation ties that claim to leather produced by certified tanneries, rather than an environmental certification for the entire watch.

The appeal is straightforward: a traditional analog watch that can synchronize its time by satellite, display a second time zone, and run on light. Choosing between the two comes down to whether you prefer green and yellow-gold-colored accents or burgundy and pink-gold-colored details, and whether the 43.4mm titanium case suits your wrist.
