MagnaCut names a blade steel. Titanium names the handle material on the Zero Tolerance 0450. Both can appear on an expensive pocket knife's product page, but they answer different questions about what you're buying.

The Kershaw Iridium, Kershaw Bel Air and ZT 0450 make that distinction useful. At the Amazon offers checked October 9, the Iridium was $59.08, the Bel Air $122.75, and the 0450 $202.75. Across those three prices, the changes include blade steel, handle construction, manufacturing origin, opening method and lock controls. Two even share the same listed weight. Here's where each design puts the emphasis, and which feature should lead your decision.

Kershaw Iridium 2038: start with the controls you want

The original gray Iridium 2038 supplies a useful baseline: D2 blade steel, anodized 6061-T6 aluminum handles, thumb studs, KVT ball bearings and Kershaw's DuraLock. The lock uses a steel crossbar with a pull-back control accessible from either side of the handle. Its deep-carry clip can move between left- and right-side tip-up positions.

Those are the features to consider before spending more. If your current knife has a lock you find awkward, the Iridium offers a different control layout at the lowest checked price in this group. The thumb studs open the blade; the crossbar control releases the lock. Kershaw's lock guide explains the mechanism and closing sequence.

The blade on this exact 2038 is a 3.4-inch spear point, paired with a 4.5-inch closed length and 3.3-ounce weight. Amazon's shared listing title mentions reverse tanto, so use the model number and gray-handle selection when checking the offer. The reverse-tanto Iridium is a separate variant.

Kershaw lists US design and quality control with manufacture in China. That makes this the starting point for deciding whether a more expensive knife adds something you specifically want. A metal handle, bearing pivot, reversible clip and crossbar lock are already included here. If those are your priorities, compare their placement and the knife's dimensions before treating a higher price as the next necessary step.

Kershaw Bel Air 6105: change the steel and keep DuraLock

Move to the Bel Air 6105 and several familiar controls stay put. It also opens manually with thumb studs and KVT bearings, uses DuraLock, and has a reversible tip-up deep-carry clip. The handle remains 6061-T6 aluminum. Its pale finish is Bright Nickel Cerakote, the color Amazon labels beige.

The blade changes to CPM MagnaCut with a BlackWash finish and reverse-tanto profile. This is the model to examine when MagnaCut is on your shopping list and you already know you want a crossbar lock. You can make that material choice while keeping the pull-back release layout found on the Iridium.

There are changes beyond the steel name. Kershaw lists the Bel Air as designed and manufactured in the US with American and global materials. It is also the smaller of the two Kershaws here: the current official specifications give it a 3.1-inch blade, 4.2-inch closed length and 2.9-ounce weight. The narrower listed handle thickness, 0.44 inch versus the Iridium's 0.49 inch, is another difference to consider if your existing folder feels too thick.

At the checked offers, the Bel Air costs $63.67 more than the Iridium. That price difference covers a different complete knife, including its steel, proportions, finish and manufacturing origin. Choose it because that combination fits the upgrade you're looking for. The extra money buys a shorter blade in this comparison, so someone whose main goal is more cutting length should notice that tradeoff before ordering.

Zero Tolerance 0450: titanium also changes the lock

The ZT 0450 takes the budget in another direction. Its stonewashed titanium handle is part of a frame-lock design, with a hardened-steel insert at the lockbar's contact point. The blade uses CPM S35VN, opens with a flipper tab on KVT bearings, and has a 3.25-inch drop-point profile.

That creates a different opening-and-closing routine. The flipper tab replaces the Kershaws' thumb studs as the opening control. To release the frame lock, you move the lockbar aside before guiding the blade closed and clearing your thumb. Someone who specifically prefers a pull-back crossbar control should treat this as a design choice to try, even if the titanium handle is appealing.

The weight comparison is revealing. ZT lists the 0450 at 2.9 ounces, exactly the Bel Air's listed weight. Its handle is thinner on the specification sheet, at 0.4 inch, and the closed length is 4.1 inches. The titanium version therefore offers a different construction and shape at the same listed carry weight as the less expensive aluminum Bel Air.

At $202.75, the 0450 costs $80 more than the checked Bel Air offer. Buy it for the all-titanium frame, flipper layout and Dmitry Sinkevich design if those are the features you want. Its established S35VN blade is a separate material choice from the Bel Air's MagnaCut. ZT dates the 0450 to 2015, and Rei Padla's earlier GADGETEER overview covers that long-running model in detail.

Name the upgrade before raising the budget

Start with the Iridium if the goal is an aluminum-handled knife with crossbar controls around $60. Step to the Bel Air when you want MagnaCut and US manufacture while retaining that control layout. Choose the 0450 when titanium frame construction and flipper opening are the point of the purchase.

Bel Air 6105: $122.75 | Amazon
ZT 0450: $202.75 | Amazon

The most useful comparison is the feature you'll notice each time you use or carry the knife: where the lock releases, how the blade opens, and how the handle fits. Set those priorities first, then decide which blade material and finish you want within the budget. That gives the higher price a specific job to do.
