REVIEW—For many years, I have been fortunate enough to lease new vehicles and not revisit the years when I frequently had to jump-start vehicles. However, I seem to have the strange habit of encountering folks either at their homes, in parking lots, or along the roads who desperately need a jump start. While I do not want to walk around with a large conventional jump starter, this BoostHero Portable Car Battery Jump Starter is a perfect compromise.

It measures approximately 5.9 inches in length, 3.3 inches in width, and 1.2 inches in height, and weighs under one pound. It is water resistant and has a built-in 4-mode LED flashlight.

It comes with smart jumper cables equipped with multiple safety protections and doubles as a power bank, with USB-A and USB-C ports for charging accessories.

Performance

IMHO, the BoostHero Portable Car Battery Jump Starter can start most vehicles, including cars, trucks, SUVs, boats, motorcycles, lawnmowers, etc. The size is perfect, and I love the thoughtfulness of the design that recognizes that on many occasions, people break down at the side of the road at night and need light under their hood to see what they are doing. According to the manufacturer, the smart jumper cables feature ten integrated safety checks and protections. These include safeguards against reverse polarity, short circuits, overcharging, over-discharging, overheating, and more.

As I mentioned, the four-mode 110-lumen LED flashlight (high beam, low beam, S.O.S., and strobe) with a reach of nearly 400 feet is the perfect safety companion, and the built-in 6,000mAh power bank that provides up to 2.4A charging via USB is perfect when traveling. The fact that it is compact, lightweight, and has an IP65 water and dust resistance rating, makes it durable enough to throw in a tool bag or in the trunk. I like it.

Final thoughts

I find the BoostHero Portable Car Battery Jump Starter to be a nicely designed techie device that is also practical in terms of the functionality it provides. Marrying a flashlight with accessory charging and the ability to jump start various vehicles with different-sized engines and power demands makes it a winner in my book.
