Jartoo Electric Blanket 7

REVIEW – Idaho is cold, so I’m always on board to try out gadgets to keep warm. Last year on The Gadgeteer we posted about a company using carbon nanotubes to provide consistent and near-infrared heat and the opportunity came out to put it to the test. The Jartoo Nano Heated Blanket Electric Throw looked like a great test candidate and has several functions to appeal to the true gadgeteers out there. Read on to see if it’s worth the try!

Design and features

The main sales point of this electric blanket is its utilization of a carbon nanotube film to provide heat instead of metal lines. This is a flexible material that is light and provides a more even distribution of heat. It also is more durable and flexible, which should last longer and take more use than other solutions.

The fabric of the blanket is velvety and soft and very comfortable to wrap up in.

There are six different heat levels you can choose from using either the Bluetooth remote or the selector button on the blanket.  The lowest is 95 degrees Fahrenheit and goes up to 131 degrees Fahrenheit on level six. Each level has a different color associated so you can see what temperature it is, assuming you remember what it corresponds to. If you remember that your favorite temperature is blue, it’s perfect.

The Bluetooth remote is an interesting addition to this blanket. It allows you to set the heat level and also set a timer for it to turn off. The heat level is already accessible on the blanket, so the timer is pretty much the only function that the remote adds. That said, it is nice to be able to set the timer and not worry about leaving the blanket on and wasting energy.

There is a snap on the throw so you can wear it around without worrying about it falling off.

Setup

The blanket plugs in via a cord in the corner. Easy peasy.

Connecting the Bluetooth remote to the blanket is also very simple. It was already paired at the factory, so it should be ready to go out of the box.

Performance

This electric blanket is true to advertising and heats up very quickly. It touts a noticeable warming within 30 seconds and I have to say that’s accurate.

The biggest issue I ran into was that the power cable is too short unless you have an outlet right next to you.

Final thoughts

Overall, this is a great electric blanket. It heats up quickly and is just the right size to wrap up in. I do wish that the cable were a little longer. I’m not sure if using an extension cord would be a good idea, so you may have to coordinate how you locate yourself. I still recommend the blanket. It’s very cozy and nice to snuggle up in on cold days.

What I like about the Jartoo Nano Heated Blanket Electric Throw

  • Fabric is flexible and warm. You would not immediately guess that this is an electric blanket
  • Lower power level is reassuring at a safety level
  • Timer/sleep mode is nice to assure that you don’t forget and leave it running forever

What needs to be improved?

  • Longer power cable or a battery powered option. I would love to have a portable battery option even if you could only get a couple of hours out of it.
