REVIEW – The REDMAGIC Go Power Bank is a handy size portable power bank mainly to charge phones or tablets but it has some tricks up its case that enable it to charge computers as well. I tried and couldn’t find anything to complain about with this device, so it’s a ‘positive day’ here at The Gadgeteer.
What is it?
The REDMAGIC Go Power Bank is a 5000mAh portable power bank with a built-in AC plug and high capacity charging capability.

Design and features
At first glance the REDMAGIC Go Power Bank looks like a futuristically designed portable phone charger. What you can’t tell at a glance is that it’s a 60W laptop charger if it’s plugged into AC power. Simply plug it into AC power and connect a USB-cable from the input / output port to a laptop. Voila, 60W laptop charging.
The REDMAGIC Go Power Bank has a heavy duty built-in USB-C cable that you can use as a carrying loop by virtue of the secure connection of the wire at the charger, and the magnetic plug catcher on the plug end of the cord. I wouldn’t hook this thing to a backpack with a carabiner but I didn’t feel that I’d damage it by carrying it around the house by its loop.
Setup
After charging the REDMAGIC Go Power Bank it’s ready to use. It was at about 70% capacity when it arrived and in around 30 minutes it reached full capacity.
Performance
The REDMAGIC Go Power Bank worked as expected and delivered no negative surprises. It is professionally constructed and has no rattles when shaken nor creaks when squeezed.
You may be interested in how fast this device charges things, and how fast it can itself be charged.
The REDMAGIC Go charged my Pixel 6a phone from 55% to 85% in 33 minutes. It delivered power in a range over 1700mAh.
I charged the device itself via plugging it into an AC outlet and it charged from 50% to 100% in 52 minutes.
To be clear, charging a laptop with the built-in USB-C cable wouldn’t be much help. That charging method is for phones or small devices and would yield only the 5000mAh capacity of the built-in power supply. By plugging in the REDMAGIC Go to an AC power source, and attaching a separate cable from the USB-C input / output port to a laptop charging port, 60W power is then delivered to a device.
Final thoughts
If you like the price, the REDMAGIC Go Power Bank can be a nice addition to your briefcase or computer backpack. It’ll be there for quick cellphone battery top-offs or to be your laptop’s power supply. I give it a solid recommendation.
