REVIEW – Office chairs are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get especially when you buy them online. The most comfortable office chair I ever had cost me $50 but it was so comfortable. Unfortunately it is falling apart so when Vari asked if I wanted to try their Performance Task Chair I said yes. Let’s see if the Vari Performance Task Chair can dethrone my old one.
What is it?
The Vari Performance Task Chair is a desk chair suitable for work or home environments. It features a breathable mesh seat back which offers lumbar and spine support for optimal seating posture. It is widely adjustable with chair height and seat base adjustment points, a counter weighted tilt mechanism, and armrests that can be independently positioned in four directions.

Assembly, installation, and setup
Assembly was super easy using the included and available online instructions. The casters were already installed in the base so all I had to do for the base was place the piston into the center. Then I flipped the seat upside down to install the back with the included five bolts and Allen key. Then I flipped the assembled seat over and placed it on the piston and I was done.
Performance
The Vari Performance Task Chair dimensions are pretty standard for an office chair and is adjustable in all the usual ways.
The Vari Performance Task Chair can be reclined and locked in using the lever on the left side of the chair.
We just had a heat wave in Washington, so I definitely appreciated the mesh back and the molded seat cushion with cooling gel and memory foam, which helped keep me a bit cooler in my office, which doesn’t have air conditioning.
The armrests are four-way adjustable. To raise and lower them you need to pull up on the switch on the side however to move them forward and back or in and out you just slide it and I noticed sometimes if I bump into my desk or just push down on them hard they will slide forward. Not a big deal but just something I had to get used to.
The seat height can be adjusted from 18.5” to 22.5” by lifting the rear part of the lever on the right side of the chair and the seat can be moved forward about 2.5″ by lifting the front of the lever.
The Vari Performance Task Chair fits easily in the back of my SUV to take it to work. It weighs about 40 lbs so I was able to turn it upside down and carry it to my office. The casters are really smooth even on carpet and feel sturdy.
After using the Vari Performance Task Chair for a few weeks I have found it to be very comfortable and provides the back and lumbar support I need as well. My only gripe is that I wish it went a little lower. The seat is at the 18.5” mark when lowered all the way with the armrests at 25″ and I prefer to keep my Vari Curve Electric Standing Desk at 25” as measured to the bottom of the desk surface (lowest height is 24″) so I had to raise the desk a little so the armrests could go under. Not a big deal but if the chair was an inch lower it would have been perfect.

What needs to be improved?
- Lower the seat to 17”
- Armrests tend to slide forward too easily
Final thoughts
The Vari Performance Task Chair would be a great addition to your work or home setup. It’s super comfortable and well built so I expect it last a long time.
