REVIEW – If you’ve ever wished that your sandwich spread jars had a built-in knife, this is the review for you! Today I’m going to tell you about Simple Spread. lid mounted knife. Let’s take a look!
What is it?
The Simple Spread is BPA free food safe plastic knife that mounts to the inside lid of a jar of nut butter, jelly, mayonnaise, etc.
What’s included?
- Simple Spread knife and magnet top
Design and features
There isn’t much to say about the design of the Simple Spread other than it’s an aqua colored plastic knife with a wide base at the top.
A very strong magnetic cap holds the Simple Spread knife in place on the lid and the knife portion attaches to the other side (inside) of the lid.
The lid then screws back in place and is ready for use.
When you’re ready to make a sandwich, you unscrew the lid and… well… spread the spread! Simple right? Let’s see it in action and see what it’s like to actually use it because it’s not exactly all unicorns and rainbows.
See it in action
From the video above, you saw that I initially had problems using the Simple Spread to stir the natural peanut butter. I had to use a regular knife for that task. But once it was stirred, it was fine. The Simple Spread knife might also not be long enough to scrape the spread from the bottom of the jar or easily get into the corners because the handle for the knife is the lid itself. I found it slightly awkward to use.
What I like about the Simple Spread Lid Mounted Knife
- Genius idea
- Easy to use
- Good for kids
What needs to be improved?
- Offer more knife lengths for larger jars
- It is not strong enough for the initial mixing of natural peanut butter
- Needs to be more bendy/flexible
Final thoughts
The Simple Spread lid-mounted knife is a great idea, and it works fine for spreads like jelly, mayonnaise, and nut butters as long as you realize that if you need to stir the nut butter before the initial use, the Simple Spread might not be strong or long enough for that task. You’ll also need to realize there might be an issue with transferring crumbs into the jar after use. If that doesn’t bother you, this might be your new favorite kitchen gadget.
