REVIEW – As an adult Scouting volunteer for my son’s troop, I’m always looking for a way to keep my first aid gear organized. I was sent an LA Police Gear Medical Pouch and other accessories to try out. I’ve purchased from LA Police Gear before, but not their “store brand” items. Do they measure up to the famous brands?
What is it?
The LA Police Gear Medical Pouch is a zippered organizer that comes in red, black, tan and green.
Hardware specs
- Red Handle for Medical Content Identification
- Hook & Loop Quick Pull Option for your “Oh, No!” Medical Moments
- Fast Action Zipper Pull-Tab
- Front hook & Loop Patch Area
- Inner Pockets & Multiple Inner Loops to Organize Supplies
- External Dimensions: 3.5″ D x 5.5″ W x 7.75″ H.
Design and features
The pouch appears to be made from some sort of durable nylon fabric, similar to cordura.
There’s a patch area for your hooked patches. Comes with one red cross first aid logo, or add your own.
The back features a configurable MOLLE-style strap system. The entire panel can be removed via hook and loop.
I wouldn’t call this pouch waterproof. There is, after all, a drain hole at the bottom.
The zipper pulls have this neat molded pull tab. Just the right size and shape for your finger.
The top is very interesting: It’s a hook and loop flap. I discovered this is designed as a quick pull to open function. Simply rip the flap open, and the entire bag opens up.
Inside you’ll find two divided halves with slightly different elastic webbing and pouch arrangements.
On one side, the elastic goes left to right; on the other they go up and down. Now it was time to stuff things in the pouch!
I’ve stuffed the pouch with some rolls of gauze, gloves, band-aids, irrigation syringe, tick removal spoon, triangular bandage, and other items. There was enough room for the LA Police Gear F8 1200 lumen flashlight.
I found the F8 a nicely rounded flashlight. There’s a hidden micro USB charging port, an easy to read green LED battery meter, and one of the best user interfaces I’ve seen. Comes with a 3.7V 21700 Li-Ion battery.
I was able to slip in a knife on the back. Here’s the LA Police Gear Rescue EDC folding knife which measures 5″ closed.
I often carry first aid kits as part of another bag. Here’s the pouch inside the LA Police Gear Tactical Bail Out Bag which measures 16″ x 11″ x 6.5″.
What I like
- Comes in four different colors
- Easy to open
- Hook and loop patch area on front, and detachable rear.
- Inexpensive but well made
What I’d change
- Nothing
Final thoughts
I was surprised at the quality of the pouch for the price. Lots of small, thoughtful touches.
