If you’ve ever tried to shoot iPhone videos at night then you’ve surely run into problems. The iPhone has a great camera, but it has a teeny tiny aperture which makes night shots problematic. You can overcome this limitation by shooting at a wide angle; iPhone also tries to compensate by adding gain, but mostly you end up with noise. Of course, the best solution is to use an additional light source, either direct (on the camera) or indirect (off to the side). The FirePak, by SureFire fills this void with a 1500 lumen detachable spotlight that mounts to the back of the iPhone using a custom provided case. The FirePak provides 100, 300, 500 and 1500 lumen outputs with runtimes of 10.25 to 1.75 hours, respectively. The intensity is controllable by a Bluetooth app or by a switch on the body. The FirePak also provides the capability to recharge your phone up to 1.5 times. The FirePak weighs 4.5 oz (127.5 g) and is 4.6” L x 2.2” W x .80” H. MSRP is $249 and it is available from SureFire.
