The Bose SoundLink Plus is $179 at Amazon, $90 off its $269 list price and a match for the lowest price we’ve tracked on it. Bose cut it early, ahead of Black Friday week, and there’s no end date posted, so the price stands until it changes or the stock runs thin.

The discount lands on the right speaker. The SoundLink Plus is the step-up portable in Bose’s line, built to fill a room or a patio on its own: one subwoofer, one tweeter and four passive radiators in a box that still tosses into a backpack. The SoundLink Flex is a personal speaker you carry for yourself. The Plus is the one you bring for everybody. At $269 that step up was a stretch. At $179 it isn’t.

Sound built for a crowd and sized for a backpack

Bose gave the Plus a real acoustic layout instead of a pair of full-range drivers doing their best. The subwoofer handles the low end, the tweeter keeps voices and cymbals clear, and the four passive radiators let a cabinet this size move air it has no business moving. It’s the loudest, fullest sound in the line short of the SoundLink Max, and it doesn’t fall apart when you push the volume at a cookout.

Two Plus speakers pair for true stereo, left and right split between them, and the Plus also links in Party Mode with the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen), the SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) and the SoundLink Max if your friends bring theirs. A shortcut button on top runs the pairing, and you can reassign it in the Bose app to fire up Spotify or your voice assistant instead. The speaker remembers up to six paired devices, so the household phones and tablets it already knows reconnect without a fresh setup each time.

At 3.4 pounds with a nylon utility loop, the Plus is carry-on gear, not furniture. Black and Blue Dusk are the standard colors. Citrus Yellow and Sunset Peach are the limited editions, the ones that get asked about.

It shrugs off weather, drops and the deep end

The Plus is rated IP67, sealed against dust and waterproof for submersion up to 30 minutes, and Bose says it floats. Drop it in the pool and it bobs back up instead of sinking to the drain, though it isn’t meant to play while it’s in the water, and the Bluetooth link drops while it’s under. The shell is rugged silicone over a powder-coated steel grille, shock resistant and rust resistant, built for tailgates and boat decks rather than bookshelf duty. After salt or chlorinated water, Bose’s care guidance is a fresh-water rinse and a full dry before it charges again.

The tradeoff sits right here, though. There’s no microphone in the Plus at all, so it can’t take a phone call, can’t hear a voice assistant on its own, and won’t work as a speakerphone on the patio table. Bose left it out and the spec sheet doesn’t hide it. If your speaker doubles as your call device, this isn’t your speaker, at any price.

Twenty hours of play and a charger in reserve

Bose rates the Plus at up to 20 hours of play time, measured at 65 percent volume with the default EQ, which is a fair test for a speaker that spends its life at conversation-plus levels outdoors. A full recharge takes five hours over USB-C, so an overnight plug resets it completely.

That USB-C port runs both ways. Plug your phone into the speaker and it charges at 15W, enough to pull a dying phone back from the edge during a long afternoon, though 15W won’t feed a laptop or a big power bank.

The box carries the speaker and a USB-C cable, and no power adapter, so your existing phone charger does the wall duty. Bluetooth 5.4 holds two source devices at once out to about 30 feet, so the speaker can sit between your phone and a laptop without a pairing dance every time you switch.

At $179, the Plus is the Bose portable to buy

If you’ve been running a smaller speaker past its limits, this is the step up. Flex owners who keep maxing out the volume, anyone whose patio setup is a phone in a cup, gift buyers shopping for the person who hosts: the Plus is the strongest portable speaker Bose sells under $200, and at $179 it isn’t close.

The exceptions are real. If speakerphone calls are part of your routine, the hardware isn’t there and no discount fixes that. If you need SoundLink Max output for big outdoor spaces, the Max exists for that job and it costs what it costs. And if your budget is firm at $150, the Flex does the personal version of this job well.

$179 matches the lowest price we’ve tracked, and Black Friday week itself could match it again. It could also sell through first. At $90 off list with no end date posted, waiting risks the stock, not a better deal.
