A taxi headed for the moon is a pretty good reason to look twice at a watch. Swatch’s Expressway to the Future puts that unlikely ride on its strap, with a miniature Tokyo skyline filling the dial. Its companion, Bridge to the Past, trades neon traffic for a summer festival scene. The two new Destination Art watches launched October 16, but choosing your favorite also means checking where you can actually buy it.

Tokyo illustrator Shinji Tsuchimochi designed both. His work combines contemporary ukiyo-e with manga and anime influences, and these watches give him more room than a round dial alone. The illustrations continue across the straps, so the scene keeps going when the watch wraps around your wrist.

Tokyo takes the scenic route

Expressway to the Future, model SUOZ374, is the louder of the pair. Yellow lightning-bolt hour and minute hands cut across a busy city scene, while a light blue seconds hand adds another color. Above the dial, a pink expressway curls toward the moon. Below it, traffic runs through a tightly packed city.

The dark blue case and silicone strap keep the artwork connected. Even the strap loop gets a small destination label, with Tokyo printed in English on one side and Japanese on the other. It’s a fun detail for a souvenir that doesn’t need a giant city name across its face.

This is also the larger watch: 41mm across, 9.85mm thick, and 47.4mm from lug to lug. It uses a plastic case and crystal, a quartz movement, and a 3-bar water-resistance rating. If you prefer a larger dial with plenty to look at, this is the one to start with.

A smaller watch with a softer palette

Bridge to the Past, model SO28Z137, takes up less space at 34mm across. Its case measures 8.75mm thick and 39.2mm from lug to lug, so this isn’t the same watch with different artwork. The size difference is a useful first filter before you get attached to either design.

An Edo-era bridge anchors the illustration, with fireworks and summer-evening colors continuing onto the strap. Gold-colored hands sit over the scene. The transparent case and pale artwork leave a much lighter overall impression than Expressway’s dense blue and green city.

Swatch uses biosourced material for the case and crystal, paired with a silicone strap. The loop says Japan in Japanese and English. Like its larger companion, Bridge has a quartz movement and a 3-bar water-resistance rating. The distinction is in the dimensions, materials, and art, rather than extra functions.

The buying detail to check first

In Japan, Expressway to the Future costs ¥18,150. Swatch’s launch announcement names Ginza, Harajuku, Shibuya, and Yokohama Vivre among the participating stores in the Tokyo area. Bridge to the Past costs ¥16,500 and has the broader route: Swatch stores across Japan and the Japanese online shop.

There’s a US pricing wrinkle. Swatch’s US product pages list Expressway at $120 and Bridge at $110, but a dollar price alone doesn’t confirm that you can order one. Neither US page offered an online purchase button when checked on October 18. The Japanese launch arrangements remain the clearest confirmed way to buy.

For readers planning a Japan visit, that makes the choice fairly practical. Expressway calls for checking a participating store; Bridge gives you more places to look. Check stock before making a special trip, and don’t assume a destination-themed watch is a numbered limited edition. Swatch’s announcement doesn’t specify a production run.

The artwork can make the first decision for you. The case size and buying location should make the second.
