Zenith’s latest USM chronograph doesn’t come in a conventional watch box. The one-off 37mm watch is paired with a mirrored USM Haller sideboard that can store up to 24 watches, turning the furniture into part of the auction lot instead of oversized packaging.
The DEFY Chronograph USM TimeForArt Unique Piece will be sold at Phillips New York on December 5, 2026 at 3 p.m. EST. Zenith says 100% of the proceeds, including the buyer’s premium, will support Swiss Institute. This is a unique charity-auction set, not a new production model, and neither Zenith nor TimeForArt currently lists an auction estimate.
The dial and sideboard were designed as one set
The watch revisits the four-color DEFY Chronograph USM collection introduced in 2025, but it doesn’t simply add another dial color. Its fully mirror-polished dial reflects the room around it while the three overlapping chronograph counters bring USM Golden Yellow, Pure Orange, Green and Gentian Blue together on one watch.
Those colors connect directly to the Haller furniture system, and a miniature version of USM’s ball joint sits on the tip of the blue chronograph seconds hand. The mirrored sideboard carries the same idea into a much larger object. A glass top displays the first layer of watches, while a lockable drawer below holds a second layer. Total capacity is 24 watches.

That makes the sideboard more than display scenery. It gives the winning bidder a practical place to keep a collection, and it makes the watch and furniture difficult to separate as design objects.
The hardware stays compact and familiar

Under the new dial, this is still the compact DEFY Chronograph USM. The stainless-steel case measures 37mm and keeps the octagonal shape, 14-sided bezel and open-link ladder bracelet used for the collaboration. Water resistance is rated at 10 ATM.
Zenith uses its El Primero 400 automatic column-wheel chronograph movement. It runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 5Hz, and has a stated 55-hour power reserve. The layout includes central hours and minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock and a date window at 4:30.
Those specifications keep the watch from becoming a decorative prop for the furniture. It remains a fully featured mechanical chronograph, just one that happens to arrive with storage for another 23 watches.
This isn’t a normal retail release
TimeForArt is a benefit watch auction organized by Swiss Institute with Phillips. The 2026 edition includes unique pieces from 25 watch brands, so the Zenith and USM set will share the sale with other one-off creations rather than sit in a dealer’s display case.
The distinction is important if you’ve seen the colorful DEFY Chronograph USM models from 2025. Those were retail watches. This mirrored version and its matching sideboard form one auction lot, and pricing will be established through the auction rather than a regular list price.

Phillips has confirmed that the broader TimeForArt sale returns as part of The New York Watch Auction: XV on December 5. A dedicated Phillips lot page and estimate were not available when this article was prepared, so prospective bidders will need to watch for the catalog before deciding how serious to get.
For everyone else, the fun is seeing two familiar objects treated as a single collector’s piece. The watch reflects the room, the cabinet reflects the watch, and the winning bidder gets a storage problem solved along with the showpiece.
