REVIEW – I love knives of all sizes, but I love pocket knives most of all. They’re versatile, easy to carry, and Vosteed makes a ton of great ones. They have some in all price ranges. Today I’m talking about a new release, the Vosteed Psyop. It’s made with some primo materials, and the specs seem to fall right into that Goldilocks zone: good blade length, good overall length, great blade steel, and more. If you’re sold already, just click the where to buy button now. If not, read on and see if you agree with me in suggesting you check it out.

Design and features

The design of the Vosteed Psyop is a collaboration through Vosteed with Geoff Blauvelt of Tuff Knives. They’ve come up with a nice blend of traditional design and newer materials. The knife has the classic drop point blade made from S35VN steel, known for its toughness, corrosion resistance, and ability to hold an edge. The blade has a st onewash finish, a personal fave of mine. The spine of the blade carries some shallow jimping and a sweet-looking swedge near the tip.

The handle scales of the Psyop I received are the red Norplex UltreX Micarta. I didn’t know this, but apparently these folks INVENTED Micarta. How can you go wrong using their Micarta for your scales? And the bolsters are made of Titanium. Sweet. Finally, for a little splash of complementary color, Vosteed added a stainless steel back spacer and thumb studs with a brass color. Combine all that with the shape of the overall knife, and you’ve got a classic-looking knife made with today’s materials.

So why do I call it a Goldilocks knife? Well, the blade is 2.99″ long which is the longest blade you can legally carry in several US states and countries across the globe. For me, the handle is long enough for a 4 finger grip giving me more control. The jimping also gives me more control for those times I need to be more precise. The pocket clip can be installed on either the left or right side, and combining that with the dual thumb studs makes the knife mostly ambidextrous. I say mostly because teh push button to disengage the top liner lock is more convenient for us righties.

Final thoughts

I think Tuff Knives and Vosteed have made a great knife. For me, it ticks a lot of boxes that fit in the “Just right” category. If you don’t like the way the one I have looks, go take a look on the Vosteed website. They have a number of handle colors and bolster material combinations. I don’t think they currently sell them separately but if they do you can easily mix and match to make it truly your own. The knife comes apart easily for maintenance, and with steel liners, you can remove the scales without taking the whole knife apart.

For any of you who claim Chinese knives are low quality, I say you’ve never tried a Vosteed. I’ve reviewed several and have yet to get a dud. When anyone sees any Vosteed knife I might be carrying that day, I make sure to tell them they should check them out. Hell, I’ve even given some away to friends and family because I love them so much. Take that for what you will.
