REVIEW – More and more devices are coming with wireless access every week, it seems. The XMCOSY+ Smart Outdoor String Lights offer another connectivity option for lights that many people have. Let’s check out how they fared outside through the temperamental spring weather here in Idaho!

XMCOSY+ Smart Outdoor String Lights consist of a 50 foot long strand of 15 LED lights evenly spaced apart. It also comes with the added feature of wireless connectivity and an app that allows you to control and program the lights from anywhere.

Design and features
These lights are pretty similar to many lights available on the market today. They consist of a sturdy black power cord with 15 LED lights spaced 3 feet apart. There is also a wireless connectivity module that allows you to control the lights through an app on your phone or home control device like Alexa.
Assembly, Installation, Setup
No assembly is necessary beyond plugging the lights into the wireless unit and the wireless unit to the outlet.
Setting up the app just required going to the Google Play store and downloading the XMCOSY app. It’s pretty straightforward to install and connect. Once installed, you can name and automate things as you please.
For single color light strands like this, there aren’t a ton of options like you get with multi-color light strands, but you can still set different mood lights and scenes. For our use outside, one setting is sufficient, but the options are nice to have.
Setting up a schedule in the app was straightforward. Pick the times that you want it on/off. Each action takes its own individual setting, which seemed unnecessary but wasn’t an issue.
Performance
Spring in Idaho is pretty temperamental when it comes to weather. In the last month we’ve had snow, rain, sun, and very strong winds, sometimes all on the same day. These lights have held up and I haven’t had any issues with breakage or lights faltering. The amount of light they put out is great and the patio is well lit on the highest setting.

- Excellent lighting for the area I want it to cover
- App was easy to install and connect
- Setting up a schedule was easy and has been very consistent
- Very durable so far in the elements
What needs to be improved?
- A light sensing function would be nice. The nighttime fluctuation here changes significantly throughout the year and constantly modifying the schedule is annoying. Not a deal-breaker, though.
Final thoughts
Overall, these lights work great and I recommend them. They have held up well in the weather through snow and rain. Other outdoor lights I’ve had in the past have had a habit of losing connection and forgetting their settings, but that hasn’t been a problem at all with these. The app was easy to use and connect. For basic one color lights, I don’t have to use it much beyond setting up the schedule. If these lights had other color options, I would change them with the season and holidays, but it’s pretty much a set it and forget it activity. Overall, a great set of lights.
