Your A/C can be much smarter (and cheaper) with the Nest 3.0

Nest Labs, an Google Alphabet owned company, recently announced the third iteration of their popular Nest thermostat. For those of you unfamiliar with the Nest thermostat, it’s an internet-connected thermostat which claims to save you up to 15% on your heating/cooling bill. It does this by automatically learning your schedule and adjusting the temperature based on your comings and goings. Additionally, if you like to adjust your temperature during certain times of the time or before bed, the Nest will learn your preferences and automatically do it for you. 

The newest version of the Nest will continue to do everything above, but has been redesigned with a 40% larger screen and thinner profile. The new display has a higher resolution that Nest says will allow you to see information from across the room. To take advantage of this display, Nest will allow you to choose between displaying the target temperature, an analog clock, or a digital clock.

Nest has partnered with several energy companies to provide the new thermostat at a reduced cost or no cost at all. If you don’t live in an area serviced by one of those partners, you can purchase the Nest from most big box stores or from Nest’s website for $249. If that’s too expensive, Nest will be selling the second generation thermostat for $199 while supplies last.
