Design and features
The Case Peach Seed Jig Amber Bone Razor features Case’s Tru-Sharp surgical stainless steel which 420 HC, (high carbon). For those ignorant of what this means like me, I was able to dig this up online. “420HC differs from it by an increased carbon content of 0.44-0.60%, while in 420 steel this content is approximately 0.12 – 0.14%. In addition, 420HC steel has an increased chromium content of about 13-14% and has silicon, manganese, molybdenum, and vanadium in its composition.” What I know about this steel is that it’s easy to sharpen and resists corrosion. Does it mean it won’t stain? No. Stainless steel means it will stain LESS. So you still want to clean it and oil it now and again to keep it looking good and working well.
About this pattern, Case says this on their site. “The Case Razor, which dates back to pre-1940, was used as a travel shaver. The pattern draws inspiration from the classic Barlow pattern, featuring an elongated bolster for a timeless look and feel. The main blade’s distinctive ‘hook’ at the tip allows the user to use the knife in hard-to-reach areas.” I thought that was pretty cool that the blade shape served the purpose it was designed for, although I don’t think I’ll be shaving my face with it any time soon.
Case and Sons make these knives in the US in Bradford, PA. No, they aren’t assembled here. They’re MADE here, although they do say on the box that some materials are imported.
In keeping with the Case traditional style, the peach jigged amber bone razor has brass liners, just like you would expect.
The knife is also mirror polished but as you can see, you will get scratches on the bolster if you carry it. I don’t mind it on this knife. It’s meant to be carried and adds character.
It also picks up fingerprints like crazy, so you probably want to give it a quick wipe-down when you’re done using it.
Performance
The Case Peach Seed Jig Amber Bone Razor is as expected sharp right out of the box. The jigged bone feels great in the hand, and the knife has a good heft to it. No, there is no locking mechanism. Again, this is a slip joint that relies on the back spring to keep the blade where you want it. Both blades do have a stop midway at 90 degrees so you can keep your fingers out of the way when closing it. With the included pen knife blade, I was able to use it for smaller jobs like trimming loose threads or strings without having way too much blade. It’s ok to go small sometimes.
What I like about Case Peach Seed Jig Amber Bone Razor knife

- Oh, that amber-jigged bone!

Final thoughts
The Case Peach Seed Jig Amber Bone Razor is another example of a great traditional pocket knife. I don’t always have to have a knife I can flip open with a finger or one on bearings that can fall shut. Sometimes it’s nice just to carry a good, trustworthy slip-joint pocket knife you can rely on and Case always performs.
