REVIEW – I have to be honest with you, I haven’t used any MagSafe accessories with my iPhone 12 Pro Max until now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, what the heck kind of Gadgeteer am I, you ask. I guess I’m one that hasn’t used the MagSafe feature on my phone 😉 Seriously though, the whole magnetic wallet thing looked cool, but I’m enjoying my awesome AKEENi XSTO minimalist wallet at the moment. So, when Choetech offered to send me their 2-in-1 MagSafe charger, I had to say yes. Let’s check it out.

What is it?

The 2-in-1 15W MagSafe fast wireless charging station from CHOETECH, is a specially designed wireless (Qi) charger for iPhones that have the MagSafe feature. If you don’t know what MagSafe is, it’s Apple’s version of fast wireless charging that uses magnets on the charger itself to securely center and hold the iPhone in place while it charges. Apple introduced this feature with the iPhone 12 series of phones last year.

What’s in the box?

  • USB-C 30W PD 3.0 Adapter
  • User manual

Design and features

This charger features a space grey base that looks like brushed aluminum, but it’s really plastic. On the front edge of the base is a status LED that breathes on and off while one device is charging and cycles side to side when two devices are charging at the same time. When no devices are charging, the LED stays lit.

On the back edge of the charger is USB-C connector and unlike many charging devices that you buy these days, this one actually comes with a USB-C cable AND an AC adapter. Thanks, Choetech!

The top and bottom of the charging base have a layer of rubber that prevents scratches to devices placed on top of the charger and the rubber on the bottom keeps the charger from sliding around on your desk.

You will need to have an iPhone 12 series phone in order to use the top charger because it’s a MagSafe charger. Magnets hold the iPhone in place. That said, the magnets on the Choetech charger aren’t overly strong. If you use a case on your iPhone, even a case with a metal plate like the Pitaka case that I use, the connection is pretty weak. If you use a naked iPhone 12, it works great though.

I tested the Choetech with my iPhone 12 Pro Max and my Apple Airpods Pro earbuds and found the Choetech 2-in-1 MagSafe charger worked great. It charged both devices with no issues.

What I like

  • The ability to charge my iPhone and another device like my Apple AirPods Pro earbuds

What I’d change

  • Stronger magnet to allow for use with iPhone cases

Final thoughts

The Choetech 2-in-1 MagSafe wireless charger does exactly what it’s been designed to do – fast charge an iPhone 12 series phone and another device at the same time. The charger is well made and has a nice minimalist style. My only minor complaint is that the magnet could be stronger for the MagSafe charger. But other than that, I really like it and would recommend it to iPhone 12 series owners (especially those of you who don’t use a case with your iPhone).

  2. Hi Julie,
Nice review. I looked at this charger too, but I wish it had the Apple Watch charger instead of the AirPod charger. Just more useful for me.

If a case is MagSafe compliant, shouldn’t the magnets on this be strong enough? Many IPhone 12 cases are not MagSafe ready and many need to take phone out of the case to use MagSafe.
I found this out with one case I bought and quickly switched to a MagSafe capable case and that made a difference.

    1. A, thanks! The magnets are fine if there’s no case on the iPhone. But if you have a case, it doesn’t hold very well unless it’s a MagSafe case. I’m using a Pitaka case and it has a metal plate in it but I have to place it carefully.
