If you grew up in the 80’s, chances are that you had a Commodore computer in your home. The Commodore 64 is one of the main reasons why I became interested in computers, programming, BBSes, and ultimately gadgets. So you can all thank the Commodore 64 for bringing you The Gadgeteer for the last 20 years. Seriously though, I had a LOT of fun with the C64 and I’m incredibly excited to hear about The Commodore Story 2-hour documentary will be airing starting today on your fave streaming service: NETFLIX, Amazon, and iTunes.

The Commodore Story – Changing the world 8-bits at a time was the successful UK based Kickstarter campaign from last year and earned £48,990 to create the movie, Blu-Ray disc, and 150-page book which can be purchased at thecommodorestory.com.

I’m not seeing the documentary listed on any of the streaming sites yet but I will be looking for it tonight… although I doubt that I’ll be able to talk Jeanne into watching it with me this weekend.

  2. Thanks Julie for the info. Like you…I got my first taste of computers when I bought my Commodore 64 back in the early 1980s. I will be firing this up tonight and watching it as well.

  3. I started programming on a Commodore Pet in middle school, then bought a Commodore 64 when I was in 9th grade. I’ve been programming ever since. Can’t wait to watch this!

    1. Quoting from the film’s director on another discussion:

“Hi Guys, Steve here director of The Commodore Story. Great to see so much interest in Commodore and Amiga. Yes the documentary will be available in the next few days on Amazon and it is in the pipeline to go on Netflix and iTunes but it is down to the lap of the Netflix gods how long that takes. To answer some other questions, we have attended many events in the USA and in Europe and we filmed everything the way it was, there has in no way I promise been a deliberate push not to include diversity. If anybody wants to order a Blu-ray you can do this at http://thecommodorestory.com

I believe the “release date” was actually for the Kickstarter campaign contributors initially.

  4. I am looking forward to watching this. I had a Commodore 64 back in 84 and I took it to college with me. I remember thinking I was so cool because I had that computer, a tv as the monitor and a Gemini dot matrix printer. I was still one of the few people at the campus not using an actual typewriter.

  5. I will enjoy this, thanks! Like others, I learned my first BASIC programming on a Commodore PET in HS and then got a C64 for my first computer at age 16. Very fond memories, thanks!

  6. I did a search on my Roku…and it came up but I was going to have to pay some pretty big amount to watch it. I thought it would be a part of Amazon Prime or on Netflix. I think I might have found it in Amazon…I just remember that I was turned off by the cost to rent the picture.

  7. Confirmed…It is on Amazon Prime. The rental price is $10.99 (I am a Prime member). I personally think that is a little too much for a rental of this kind. A few bucks…sure. But $10.99 is just too high for this type of video.
