In honor of Earth Month, Bracketron is helping you to be green while saving serious green!  They are offering the Stone GreenZero mobile device charger at a 25% savings from March 20 through April 30, 2013.  The Stone GreenZero charger uses Bracketron’s exclusive GreenZero Technology, which they say is “the most eco-friendly way to charge mobile devices while totally eliminating the wasteful stand-by consumption (Zero idle power) that other chargers consume when left plugged in.”  You simply plug the charger into a wall outlet, plug your device’s cable into the Stone’s USB jack, and press the green button to turn on the charging circuit.  When your device is charged, the Stone powers off so there is zero wasted stand-by power.  The Stone has a 1A USB port, so it works to charge any USB-chargeable smart phone, MP3 player, eBook reader, or similar device.  You’ll need to supply your own cable.  The Stone GreenZero charger is great for home use and small enough to throw in your gear bag.  It’s normally $24.95, but you’ll save 25% during the Earth Month special period.  Simply enter the GREEN coupon code at checkout.

  2. While I like the idea of stopping vampire draws, at ~$25, I’d need to keep my cell phone charger plugged in for about 15 years before it paid for itself.

Will this device last 15 years? And if the goal is to go more green, wouldn’t it be better to spend that $25 on a few foot switches and just tap it with your foot when you need to charge or when you are done? For the same money and an infinitesimal amount of physical excretion, you’ll be saving more money and being more green — and burning an extra calorie.

  3. Can’t help but agree with jhon above. Another cheap and not particularly demanding way to handle the situation is to simply unplug the charger when you don’t need to use it.

  4. I purchased 1,000,000,000,000 carbon offsets years ago. I figure I can smugly use as much carbon as I want for the rest of my life and not feel guilty about it. Just like Al Gore, and I don’t even have a private jet.
