back to school1Are you ready for Back to School?  My children start school in two days and they are psyched!  We went shopping yesterday for all of the Back to School goodies and I found some incredible deals on technology and thought I would ask you to share your Back to School deals in the comments section.

Some deals were too good to pass up, including a solar powered calculator for under $1 at WalMart.

  2. I’m not sure which cheapens this site more; that gaudy back to school clipart or the popup begging for newsletter subscribers.

    1. @James I’m not sure what you’re talking about as far as a popup begging for newsletter subscribers. The only popup we have on the site happens once per user and it’s for a survey from my main advertiser. You can easily click the NO THANKS button if you don’t want to fill it out.

  3. Julie I am talking about a popup that has happened to me a few times in the past few weeks; a small Lightbox image that shows the gadgeteer logo and a gmail-like envelope.

Possible it is for a survey, but when I see an envelope I immediately process it as subscription to a newsletter. I’m immune to these popups so I immediately closed it each time without opening it.

  4. @James Okola I opened this post on two different browsers I never use and loaded The Gadgerteer and I didn’t get any Popups for subscription, weird! I’ll have to see what happens when I turn the popup blocker off-
back 🙂 I turn off the popup blocker and reloaded the page in IE and there was no popup. I went to the main page of Gadgeteer and no popup. Weird! What can be going on with your browser?

  5. I just tried Safari (that I’ve never used before on this computer) and turned off the popup blocker before I loaded the Gadgeteer… Still no popup…..
I tried Opera browser and finally I got a popup (but an in tab one not a separate window) for a survey but it went away on it’s own when I changed tabs. I reloaded the site and it didn’t come back.
So I tried it in Chrome, Firefox, IE and Opera. Opera was the only one that the survey popped up, but no subscription one 🙁

  6. The popup I saw was in the same window, it was a little box over the page. Popup may not be the best term for me to have used.

I just saw the thing for the survey, it opened up in a little “drawer” on the bottom right. I haven’t seen the one begging for subscribers for about a week or so, it appears the popup has been changed to a site block module on the top right of the page.

    1. @James & Bob Sorry about that… I had forgotten that each person will get 1 popup asking if they want to subscribe to the email news list. It should use a cookie so that it will only ask you once if you want to subscribe. Are you both saying that you’re receiving this popup multiple times using the same computer and browser?

  7. @James Okola yeah that’s the one I got in Opera but not the other browsers; I wonder why…
What browser and OS are you using?
We’ll get to the bottom of this!
Or Julie will figure it out 🙂

By the way I’m not affiliated with The Gadgeteer, I just think it’s a mighty good site with good folks who are like minded as me 🙂
Plus I have too much time on my hands and need to get a life 😛
