nookcolor with appsBarnes & Noble has announced the addition of apps, games, and music for their Android-based Nookcolor.  It will come pre-loaded with Pandora radio, Quickoffice, and games like Sudoku, puzzles, and chess.  You’ll be able to shop for other apps – like Angry Birds, Lonely Planet, apps to keep you organized, apps for kids, and more – right from your Nookcolor.  They’ve also added full-featured mail and the Nookfriends social features.  Finally, they’ve added enhanced web with video.  Now your dedicated e-reader can also function as a tablet.  The Nookcolor is still $249.  People who already own the Nookcolor should expect a firmware update to version 1.2.0 to add these features to their Nookcolor.

  2. I upgraded my Color Nook to the new software and cruised the app store. Fairly useless, IMHO. A calendar and notepad program. Lots of children’s books, a couple of others that I wouldn’t pay for.

I haven’t rooted my Nook yet, but I might, just to see if there’s something I can use out there. But it does a fine job of playing movies, music and reading books, which is good enough for the moment.
