Much like Sony Ericsson’s Bluetooth watch that only works with Sony Ericsson’s phones, the Allerta inPulse Smartwatch is made only for Blackberry phones. The main advantage of Allerta’s inPulse Smartwatch is that it displays text messages, emails, alerts, caller-id, and updates (twitter, facebook, etc.) on its 1.3” full color OLED display. This would be a great watch for people that don’t want to constantly take their phones out of their pockets to check the status. The watch uses Bluetooth to connect to the Blackberry and requires a proprietary software to be loaded on the Blackberry. It’s reasonably priced at $149.

The Sony-Ericsson watch can be used with phones from other manufacturers. I use mine with a Nokia E75 and ironically I get more functionality than I did with a Sony Ercisson phone (like it displays text messages in full). RIM is a closed system. Sony-Ericsson and Nokia are not.
