Writing Instruments

I have always wanted to try an actual fountain pen but have never had the chance. I wanted to see if something worthwhile has been lost overtime with the advent and widespread use of the ballpoint pen. So when the folks at GoldSpot.com offered to send the Namiki Falcon Fountain Pen, I totally raised my [...]

BAUX is a Kickstarter project for custom machined aluminum pens that use Bic pen parts. Made of Bauxite, an aluminum ore, BAUX pens aren’t really pens at all. They are really just the barrel of the pen, which you combine with readily available Bic pen parts to create your own unique writing instrument. Bic pens [...]

Are you a notebook addict? Then join the club my friends. Whether you use them for keeping lists, to-dos, a journal or whatever, there’s still something wonderful about a physical paper notebook that a smartphone or computer can’t capture. My favorite pocket sized notebooks are Moleskine Cahiers and Field Notes notebooks. But now I have [...]

I imagine there are still some people around that actually take notes using paper and pen.  I admit I do on occasion in my role as secretary for a local club.  For the times I take the minutes, I’ve always wanted a way to convert my pen strokes to digital text so I don’t have [...]

The TiBolt is the latest writing instrument seeking funding through Kickstarter. Designed by Brian Fellhoelter, this is an American made pen constructed from stone washed Titanium. We’ve seen Titanium pens before, but this one has a very interesting mechanism to extend the ink tip. Instead of a standard clicky cap, the TiBolt has a sliding [...]

The DIY Pen is a unique kit from Fraser Ross art & design studio who is based in Glasgow Scotland. The kit combines plywood, rubber heat shrink tubing and ballpoint pen components. The plywood sheet holds the individual parts that create the skeleton of the pen. It also doubles as a fixture for the last step which requires a [...]

Chadwick Parker and Joe Huang’s Solid Titanium Pen + Stylus Kickstarter project has 6 days of funding left. They aren’t worried though, because they have bypassed their $50,000 goal to over $254,000.  What’s so exciting about this pen? Other than the fact that it’s available in 3 finishes and made of solid TA4 Grade 4 [...]

The Bobino Slim Pen is a super thin ballpoint pen (4 mm thick) that stores in your favorite notebook like a bookmarker. I’m not sure how comfortable it would be for writing long entries, but its small size allows you to easily store it in the notebook so you always have a pen handy. The [...]

The Stad Compass from JetPens makes me miss geometry class a little bit. This writing instrument has a refillable 0.5mm mechanical pencil with a hidden needle that folds out so you can draw arcs and circles. It’s available in 4 colors (Blue, Green, Red and Silver) for $10. It might be a fun gift for [...]

Creating a collection of every day carry (EDC) items is obviously a personal thing. What is an indispensable item for one person, may be completely useless to another. However, one item that almost all of us will agree is useful, is a pen. Even though the majority of people reading this review carry a smartphone and may [...]

Sniffing the Diet Support Pen is supposed to curb your appetite and put you in a calm state of mind within 5 minutes of sniffage. The Diet Pen looks like an ordinary pen with a ballpoint [...]

JetPens recently sent me two Uniball Jetstream pens to try. One from their inexpensive Rubber Body series and the other from their pricier Alpha Gel Grip series. Both pens feature special Jetstream ink which Uniball claims dries 9 times faster than standard ballpoint ink and is fade and water resistant.

Check out this nice looking Aluminum and Carbon Fiber mini pen from Sunshine Products. Sunshine’s mini pens are modular, so you can “build” one with your own choice of body (stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum with carbon fiber or brass), end cap (brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel), pen cap (brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel), cap style [...]

It’s not really a pencil and it’s not really a pen. The Beta Inkless Pen designed by Axel Weinbrecht, is a writing tool with a tiny metal tip made of lead that unlike regular lead pencils, will not wear down with use. It lays down a grey line that doesn’t smudge or erase and can [...]

Julie’s recent posts about erasable pens and mechanical pencils has woken my own office-supply love.  I found a really unusual looking pen that’s designed to reduce hand pain when writing.  The evo.pen is said to be the remedy for hand pain when writing due to arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, repetititve stress syndrome, and writer’s cramp. [...]

I like to write with ball point pens 99.9% of the time. The only problem is that when mistakes happen, you either have to use white out or scribble through the word and try again. Yuck. I’ve tried erasable ink pens in the past, but was never very happy with the results. Besides that, I [...]

Mechanical pencils are very convenient because you don’t have to sharpen them. But, if you’ve ever used one for any length of time, you probably know how easy it is to break the lead as you’re writing. Most of the time, the lead gets a sharp point as you write across the paper and then [...]

There’s a shared obsession with unique writing instruments here at The Gadgeteer, so it’s sort of a big deal if I can beat my fellow Gadgeteers to posting about a new and different gadgety pen.  Turtle, a new company based out of the UK, has just released their first two contributions to the world of [...]
