Power

Sleek. That is the word that seems to describe the Tekkeon MP3700 “myPower ALL Plus with Auto Detect” portable power unit the best. Boasting a smooth, nicely curved, shiny form with a simple button and LEDs on the top, this is one sharp-looking peripheral. Just looking at it, I knew this was going to be [...]

Have any of you considered solar power for charging your devices? If you have, the Portable Multi-Purpose Solar Charger from Brando looks like it might be a pretty good (although somewhat bulky and expensive) way to accomplish that task. It can output 24V, 22V, 16V@4A and 5V@500mA power. High power capacity is provided by a [...]

Most of the gadgets that I use have batteries that recharge via USB. But one of the most important devices that I use for every review that I write for The Gadgeteer, uses AA batteries – a speedlight flash for my Nikon digital camera. Of course I don’t use regular old alkaline AAs to power that flash, I use rechargeable NiMH batteries. To charge them, I have an ancient Radio Shack charger that takes forever to charge. For that fact, I’ve been on the lookout for a smaller and faster charger. The folks at Engergizer have sent me their compact charger to review. Let’s take it for a test drive…

Are you the type of person that sacrifices perfection to buy one gadget that can do multiple things, but is the master of none of them. Or do you prefer to buy the best gadget for each task? I fall somewhere in the middle of those two scenarios, but want a multi-tasking device to be a master of all ;o) The PowerTune All-in-One iPod Battery Pack / Speaker / Case / Stand from macally is a four function device. But is it the master of all them? Let’s find out…

They say money makes the world go round, but without power your work won’t get done, period. When using a UMPC with a standard battery, I cannot finish a full day’s work. Most business people that use a laptop or UMPC on a regular basis, will run into that issue as well. Enter Mugen Power of the Netherlands. They have created a line of extended batteries for the most popular handhelds, and UMPCs. They offer a 1 Year warrenty on there products. I contacted them after I learned they make an extended battery for the Sony Vaio U1/U3 line UMPCs. They sent out a review unit right away. Thank you Mugen Power!!

At this point in my life, I’m going through a Zen phase. Zen is all about relaxing and de-stressing. My biggest cause of stress is clutter, so as a result, I’m trying to get rid of all the things that cause clutter and disorganization in my life. As The Gadgeteer, probably the main sources of my clutter are all the cables and AC adapters that I have scattered about for my various devices. One solution to my mess of cables and wall warts comes from Gomadic. Their new QuadCharge Universal Charging Station allows you to charge four devices in a tidy manner that only requires the use of one wall outlet.

The ChargePod
is a customizable system designed to charge up to six devices at one time. The
folks at CallPod have
done a good job of engineering a charging system for the tech-carrying road warrior.
I travel quite extensively for work and regularly forget a power cord or two. The ChargePod
system not only allows you to reduce cable clutter, but puts all your charging
needs in a small, lightweight, organized package.

You can’t turn on the television, open a magazine or read a newspaper these days without hearing stories about global warming and hearing terms like carbon neutral and green power. Whether or not you subscribe to the belief that we humans are accelerating our damage to this planet, I think we can all agree that the more power we use, the more we have to pay. Unless you live off the grid (another term we often hear…), you most likely have to pay a monthly bill to your electric company. If you would like to lower your electric bills and maybe even help save the planet a little bit, I have a product that can help you do just that.

Although I’ve personally travelled outside the United States only once so far, I can totally see the value of the gadget I’m going to tell you about today. The Universal AC Travel Adapter from USB Geek, is a nifty little module that will allow you to use your favorite electrical devices in other countries.

Until our toys, gadgets and electronic thinga-majigs can be powered by magic fairy dust, we’ll continue to be slaves to batteries. I’m sure most of us have been in a situation where one of our favorite devices ran out of juice. It seems like every time this happens, a battery charger is no where to be found. What if you could remove the battery from your device, pull off one end and stick it into a USB port to charge? Sounds farfetched doesn’t it? Well guess again, because Moixa Energy is bringing you the USBCell.
