Here’s an unusual use for your DNA – artwork for your home.  The kit from ThinkGeek requires a cheek swab for DNA collection.   You send the swab in to the lab, where your DNA is processed into one of those electrophoresis spreads so familiar from those forensics shows.  The spread is photographed and colorized in the colors of your choice (out of 24 color styles available).  In 4-6 weeks, you’ll receive your 8″ X 10″  DNA portrait in a bolted glass frame that can stand or be hung on the wall.  The DNA Portrait kit is $149.99.

Whether you have a mutt or a supposed pure bred, The DNA Breed Identification kit from Viaguard, Inc. will show you which breeds your pooch has descended from along with possible genetic health concerns and personality traits. They send you the kit for free, but the processing will cost you $71 and some change. If you’re not interested in your pet’s family tree, this company provides human DNA tests as well… including some non-standard ones that allow you to send in some pretty freaky items for testing.
