hbuddy_fig1The purpose of the Headset Buddy ($9.95 to $14.95 available from Webko)  ) is a little hard to conceptualize or appreciate at first glance.  In fact it is rather a niche type of product.  For those of us who a) do not enjoy clutter; b) do not particularly care about Blue Tooth (gasp); and c) appreciate gadgets that make ones life easier even though they are not glamorous (the gadgets that is), this is indeed a nice buddy to have.

The main idea behind the products is to allow you to either a) use your telephone headset with your PC [which is what I’m doing right now with my “Phone Headset-to-PC Buddy”] or use your fancy gaming or Skype PC headset with your phone.  So if you have a favorite head phone set (say noise-canceling or super comfortable) you can pair it up with a headset buddy and save a little space.  Neat. Concise. Useful.

ralph-baerMotherboard has a great video interview with Ralph Baer. Who the heck is Ralph Baer you ask? He’s the father of many interactive games including some classics that gadgeteers of my generation remember fondly. Remember Pong? Simon? Yes, Ralph and his team invented them. The wonderful thing is that Ralph is still building games today!

Able Planet-Headphones-1I write this review as I fly at 35,000 feet in the air.  I thought this would be the ideal place to review and test the noise-canceling feature of the Able Planet True Fidelity Active Noise Canceling Headphones (NC300B).  Technology used in high quality hearing aids is implemented in these headphones to enhance sounds and reduce external noise. The result is a full rich sound that is pleasure to my ears, especially in an airplane’s cabin. And that’s not all… [click to continue…]

vook-review-1In October, Julie had an article about vooks – a melding of ebooks with multimedia content.  They can be read on your computer (through paid web access) or on your iPhone.  At the time, Julie said there were only four titles available.  It seems they are up to six titles now.   I was digging around with Google, and I saw that there was a vook available from an author I’ve read before.  The title will only be available as a vook and the iPhone app version was discounted now, so I decided I’d give it a try.  This is a fiction book, and when I first heard of vooks, I thought the format would lend itself to do-it-yourself and self-help books better than to fiction books.  I decided I’d test my theory with this vook. car-cam-duallyThe Dash Cam Dually has two built-in 1.3 Mega Pixel cameras to capture the scene in front of your car AND what’s happening inside your car. Four Infrared LED’s illuminate the interior of the vehicle so you can even capture video at night. Video is recorded to the included 2GB SD card. Another really cool feature of this camera is the built-in G-Shock sensor that has five (5) level settings and can record multiple impact points in the event of an accident. The Dash Cam Dually will sense the drastic change in g-force, and automatically log the recordings. The camera even has a built-in GPS receiver that logs your exact location, speed, and direction. This camera can be purchased for $385.00 from SpyGadgets.com

atlona-wireless-hdmiHave you ever wanted to connect your laptop to your TV, but wanted to keep the laptop next you on the couch instead of placing it across the room where the TV is located? I have a gadget that should solve that problem. It’s the new AT-HDAIR wireless USB to HDMI or VGA adapter from Atlona Technologies. Plug a small USB adapter into your Windows laptop (sniff, no Mac support) and then connect the receiver to your HDTV or projector. The adapter even supports audio. Press release after the jump. directv-apps-1Hello fellow couch potatoes! I’m not sure if this is actually news or just something that I happened to stumble upon, but tonight while I was surfing on my DirecTV DVR, I inadvertently pressed the Right arrow key on my remote while watching a live show. When I did, a popup appeared on the Right side of the screen telling me it was loading the app store. I thought “Hmmmm, what is this?” [click to continue…]

2-SplashOne of the powerful things about the Android, in my opinion, is the fact that you are not held captive by one way of getting applications for your phone. The Android Market is very convenient, but you can also go other routes to purchase and install applications.

One of the other sources is Handmark. They have been around for a while, and I recall purchasing from them back in my Palm days. If you go to their website, you can set what your phone is, and searches will then only display those applications that work with your phone.

They were nice enough to send along Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 for me to review. [click to continue…]

soft1There’s a new ‘WebBook’ on the market called Litl, and it’s a top-to-bottom operation that’s designing the whole widget with the philosophy of “The computer works for you ( not the other way around )”. Litl has designed both the hardware and the software with the web experience as the priority, and they call the resulting 3lbs beauty ‘Litl’. Besides it’s new OS, the high-end 12.1 LCD panel with a 178 degree viewing angle really sounds nice. Accompanying the awesome display is an Atom processor, 1GB of ram, 2GB of CompactFlash storage, and from the 720p video acceleration I’m guessing they’re using Nvidia’s Tegra platform. The OS appears to be a web-centric design with a ‘Card’ based homescreen that looks a Litl ( sorry ) like Safari’s ‘Top Sites’. Read on…

geo-boxMy good friend David Simpson sent me an email tonight with a link to a really cool story. I love a good story and I love a good gadget. Make it a 3 part story about a homemade gadget given as a wedding present and you’ve got a real winner on your hands. Mikal Hart made a reverse geocache puzzle box as a wedding present for his friends. He used an Arduino prototyping platform and a GPS to lead the newly married couple to a specific location before the box would open. Pretty cool huh? The only thing that I’ve done that comes somewhat close is when I had a PDA case made for Judie of GearDiary quite a few years ago. She was a big fan of Louis Vuitton, so I bought an old LV handbag from eBay, sent it to Vaja and they used the LV material to create a custom PDA case for her. Have you ever made a gadget for someone you care about?

To preface this review, for months I have been thinking about MacGyvering a device that could safely and securely hold my iPod Touch while I run on the treadmill. So, when Julie posted the Spotlight Gadget blurb on the In Your Face (IYF) iPhone/iPod Touch Stand I quickly asked if they wanted me to try it out. Fortunately they agreed and sent me one of their holders straight away. [click to continue…]

eyefi-1This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of EyeFi. All opinions are 100% mine.

This past summer, Shari reviewed the Eye-Fi wireless SD card. After her review, I kept meaning to pick up one for myself so that I could see how well it would work with my new Canon G11 digital camera. As luck would have it, one was recently offered to me and I jumped at the chance to do my own review. Let’s see if I liked it too. [click to continue…]
