Amazon has started offering qualified customers the option to pay for select cell phones using monthly payments. They will charge you the first payment when the device ships and the remaining balance will then be split into equal monthly payments.

Amazon does not add any finance charges, interest, or hidden fees and there is no credit check or application required.

  2. I won’t use the finance plan, but this is a good sign that Amazon will carry more unlocked phones. In my opinion, the only way to deal with bloat-filled and egregious AT&T. My previous source, Expansys-USA, apparently went out of business so looking for a new outlet. Now patiently waiting for the Samsung Galaxy S8; or should I wait for the Note 8?

    1. I agree. I think this is really great news and might help drive down prices a little bit. I always buy unlocked these days because I don’t want anything to change on my monthly plan. I had a heck of a time getting things fixed when I ordered the iPhone 7 through Apple / Verizon and returned it.

  3. Yeah, Amazon is pushing into unlocked phones more lately, and that should be a good thing. They already have a few phones that you can get $50 off with lockscreen special offers (like the ones on Kindle, you can disable them later by paying the price difference), and now this.

This offer is especially interesting because it isn’t normal credit financing — in fact the t&c specifically say that they won’t check your credit, eligibility is entirely based on your record with Amazon and the availability of a card to autopay with. It’s not surprising, given this, that the device selection is limited. Besides Kindles and Fires, you can choose from a bunch of different budget phones by Blu, Alcatel, etc. with a few more interesting ones thrown in like Axon 7 Mini, Xperia XA, or (the best of the bunch IMO) Moto G4 Plus which is 64GB/8GB/5.5″ and works on all US carriers for $250. Even so, this is a great option for prepaid and quick replacements when money is tight, and it’s the sort of thing I think we need to see more of in the American mobile market.
