Buying take-out food is convenient until you don’t have utensils to eat it. The reusable Unitensil from FolditFlat is minimalist’s version of a Spork, but this one has amazing origami skills that let you fold it flat for easy storage and EDC (every day carry).

Unitensil is made of a very lightweight and flexible no.5 recyclable BPA and phthalate free plastic.

It folds flat and stores in an included pouch.

When you’re ready to eat, you take it out of the pouch, unfold it and press the center snaps together.

The Unitensil (how the heck do you even say that?) resembles a bowtie with a fork on one end and a spoon on the other. Where’s the knife? It’s the serrated edge on the outside of the fork.

I’m not sure how robust this eating utensil is considering the material it’s made of. It might have no problems cutting soft food but I bet it’s no match for a piece of meat. That said, it does look like a hand EDC emergency tool for those times when you find yourself in front of some yummy food with no easy way to eat it. They’ve offered to send me a sample. So I can do a full review.

Unitensils from FolditFlat come in a variety of colors and are priced at $21 for a package of 6 which includes shipping. You can find out more and order by visiting folditflat.com.

  2. I’d look forward to a review – I’m curious. However they don’t look like they’ve solved my basic problem with these types of utensils – that you typically need both a knife and a fork at the same time.

    1. I just left a review, that they’re great for our kids’ lunches. I’d just say it fits a niche – a yogurt or soup on the go – but is probably not what I’d choose to carve up a steak.

  3. $21.00 for a pack of 6 ($3.50 ea) is a bit pricey for something that looks like it was cut out of a milk jug. For $2.95 you can get a lite my fire spork made of lexan at REI. I’m with DStaal. knife and fork need to be separate.

  4. Very handy for when I grab a yogurt at the store or take a picnic to the park. It folds to a little larger than a matchbook. I keep one in my bag all the time.

  5. The Unitensil is fantastic! Well-made, easy to carry and care for. Perfect for snacks on the go, children’s lunches, schools and trips. Can’t recommend it enough! A small step everyone can do to help alleviate a BIG problem.

  6. I designed the utensil as an easy travel tool. Yes you could travel with a metal fork if you needed to, however it is a response to eating on the go. The Unitensil is Ultra Light, fits easily in your pocket or bag and is easy to use and clean. After use the Unitensil is completely covered in the case it comes with, then bring it home and hand or dish wash it. Yes you do need two if you want the benefits of 2 utensils, but how often do you eat on the go with two utensils? One can easily take two back to back and put them in the case as well. It is surprisingly sturdy when you snap it together. This is an aspect of the utility patent received.

The Unitensil is offered in clear with colored buttons right now, but will be offered in colors soon. It won’t poke a hole in your bag. It’s made in the US.

I would manufacture it in recycled milk jug material however the temperature doesn’t allow it to be used easily in hot food applications. I am looking for materials which will further green this product.

    Use less throwaways, use Unitensils.

Julie, The Unitensil does not cut your mouth while eating. I have sold them for a while now and tested them in my community of friends and colleagues. No one has complained about that.

  7. this utensil is such a handy solution for someone who hates to contribute to plastic waste. We are way too accustomed to using something once, then tossing it in the landfill. It makes much more sense to pack this in a lunchbox or take a bunch of them to a picnic. A great design with an environmental upside, too!

  8. I’ve found the Unitensil is really great for my kids’ lunches. They can use the fork for mac’n’cheese and the spoon for yogurt. Plastic forks and spoons get broken in their bags, but the Unitensils keep on tickin’. They’ve used them all this year and haven’t destroyed one yet. It’s also a fun design, a conversation piece, they like that too.

  9. I’m a touring musician and keep the Unitensil with me at all times. I love it.
Flexible, yet surprisingly sturdy. Also, the serrated edge is functional for cutting a range of things while somehow not presenting a danger to your lips when eating. I highly, highly recommend it.

  10. I’m a dog owner and keep the Unitensils with me at all times. I use them for picking dog poops. They are convenient but $3.50 for a single use item is rather expensive.
