Earlier this year I told you about Taylor Guitar’s TaylorSense module and app combo that can be added installed into a guitar to help you monitor the instrument’s health stats. Health stats for a wooden instrument like a guitar, ukulele, mandolin, violin, etc, are usually temperature and humidity ratings. When the air is dry like in the winter months or all the time in some areas of the country, the wood can dry out and crack. That’s not something you want to happen to a favorite or very expensive musical instrument. The TaylorSense product is interesting, but the Humiditrak from D’Addario does not require you to modify the instrument itself. It’s a Bluetooth module that clips to the side of the instrument’s case or Velcros to the case’s interior. The app on your mobile device will keep a constant stream of temperature and humidity levels and will alert you with a push notification when conditions reach levels that could cause damage to the instrument. The Humiditrak uses a CR2032 battery which powers the device for up to 2 years. The D’Addario Humiditrak is priced at less than $50. Visit planetwaves.com and check Amazon for prices and ordering.
