Photojojo has a ring light flash unit for your smartphone.  The Smartphone Ring Light is constantly on for evenly-lit portraits, videos, and even macro shots.  It’s available with a case for the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, or you can buy just the ring light for use with other smartphones.  Even if you purchase it with the case, you can still pop it off and use it as a handheld flash, or you can move it around and surround the camera lens with the unit.  Dials on its side adjust the brightness and color temperature.  It uses three AAA batteries, so it won’t drain your phone’s batteries.  The iPhone cases have a kickstand for hands-free shooting.  The Ring Light and iPhone Case (for iPhone 6 or 6 Plus) is $85.00; the Ring Light alone is $55.00 from Photojojo.

A ring light is used to illuminate the subject from different angles to reduce any visible shadows. In order to do this, it needs to surround the camera lens, i.e. on-axis lighting. Having the ring light off to the side, as this product does, will not illuminate the subject evenly. Since it is still illuminating the subject from the side, it will still produce some shadows. It’s just not a single point light.

If they can design the product to surround the lens, I may consider buying it.

As it says in this post, when using it with the case for one of the iPhones, you can swing the light around to surround the camera lens.
