Coming days after announcing compatibility with Windows Phone devices, Misfit has now released a new activity tracker called the Flash. The Flash sticks with the unique circular design of their popular Misfit Shine tracker, but this one comes in with a price that  is under $50. The Flash is constructed of a special soft-touch plastic that is durable, and waterproof up to 30 meters. It is available in seven eye catching colors including a lemon-lime Zest, funky Fuschia, and minimalist Frost.

Just like the Shine, the Flash tracker never needs charging and can be worn almost anywhere on the user’s body including their wrist, pants, shirt, shoes, lapel, or even on a keychain. The activity tracker automatically counts your steps, calories, distance, sleep quality and duration, and can even track cycling and swimming activities. The entire front of Flash is a button; to check your progress toward your daily activity goal and the time of day, simply press it. Flash syncs your data wirelessly with the Misfit App on your smartphone. The Misfit Flash will be available for $49.99 at Best Buy, Target, Amazon, Walmart and other retailers worldwide in October, but you can be pre-ordered now at misfit.com/flash.

  2. I just recommended this to a friend with an overweight teenage boy who needs some structure to exercise more.

This is perfect for him as it is affordable, he doesn’t have to remember to charge it, and it looks really cool.

I think Apple’s iWatch fitness capabilities are not going to be of major consideration when it finally comes out.

The prices are coming way down.

  3. I’ve been using the Misfit Shine (funded their Indiegogo campaign in 2012) and like that’s it’s more accurate than other devices, especially those worn on the wrist. But, alas, I lost it over the weekend.

The timing couldn’t be better for me. I’m happy that there is another, less expensive option coming from these folks. I’ve pre-ordered mine and am looking forward to receiving it.

    1. @Bob K. I’m curious if the top surface is really a button that you can press instead of just a surface that you have to tap. I always had trouble getting the metal version of the Misfit to react to my taps.

  4. Only just found out Misfit is co-founded by ex Apple and Pepsi CEO John Sculley. Whoa!!

Only slight drawback is thhat it’s only waterproof up to 30 meters (3ATM) which usually means it isn’t suitable for swimming. For reference my Pebble has 5ATM.

  5. @Julie I frequently experienced that problem also, especially when trying to go into sleep mode. The recent software fix that no longer required the tapping to get into sleep mode was a nice change.

  6. @Truffol I don’t think that would be a problem. It seems that 100 feet is plenty of leeway for swimming, unless you are doing SCUBA. The Fitbit Flex is only rated water resistant for up to 10 meters and I’ve never had a problem swimming with it on my wrist.
