Yesterday, we told you about the Modfire Astrofire modern fire box for the backyard of your mid-century modern home.  Today, we’ll show you the perfect mailbox for your home.  These mailboxes were designed by a fellow North Carolinian, and his project was recently successfully funded on Kickstarter and is now in the manufacturing stage.  Now Modbox is accepting pre-orders for the Mid-Century Modern Mailbox.  The design of these boxes was inspired by mailboxes produced in the 1950s and 1960s.  They are made of 20 gauge cold-rolled steel, same as the 50s-70s mailboxes, and they are more than 75% thicker than most mailboxes made today.  The door pull and flag cap are made of anodized aluminum.   The boxes measure 7” wide X 7.75” high X 21.25” long.  They are available in a variety of original Eichler exterior colors.  Two-tone models are available in black or white with turquoise, eucalyptus, paprika, pumpkin, or sunflower, or in all white or all black.  A solid-color mailbox is $199; two-tone mailboxes are $249.  A powder-coated, 11-gauge steel post in white or black is available for $119.  Buy both the post and the mailbox for $299 for solid colors or $349 for the two-tone colors.  Because they will fill Kickstarter orders first, you can expect a Modbox mailbox ordered now to ship in early August, 2014.  (Learn more about Eichler’s mid-century homes here.)
