The CalypsoTag luggage tag pairs your smart phone with Bluetooth 4.0 (iPhone 4s and newer, both generations of the iPad mini, iPad 3rd gen and newer, and iPod Touch 5th generation, Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4) running the app with the CalypsoTag attached to your luggage.  It uses technology built by Chipolo that alerts the app when the luggage is within about 200 feet of the smart phone.  You won’t have to hover around the luggage carousel, because the app will notify you when your luggage has made it into the collection area.  You’ll be alerted if someone tries to walk off with your luggage, too.  The smart chip inside the tag is battery powered; you should expect about six months before you need to change the battery.

The CalypsoTag is made of leather, and it is a beautiful accent to your luggage or laptop bag.  In addition to the Bluetooth tracking, there’s a low-tech label where you can put your name and contact information, too.  The CalypsoTag is available in red, beige, or mint green for $119 from CalypsoCrystal.

It is me – Scrooge again.

If my wife and I travel with our usual 3 suitcases on long trips, that means that I will end up spending $360 for luggage tags. Sort of absurd just to avoid the melee around the luggage carousels. Also, I would bet that the company is making about $100 profit on each tag.

Finally, if the tag does no really have a 200 foot range, your cell phone will detect it when the luggage is in the holding area or on the luggage delivery cart before it makes it to the carousel.

I will pass an this one.
