Android app spotlight: CCleaner

By day I work at Cummins Inc. in the engineering application support group. Our main job is to help users all over the world with their application problems. We do a lot of troubleshooting, uninstalling and reinstalling of software. One of the tools in our tech arsenal is Piriform’s CCleaner, which cleans the gunk out of the Windows registry, temp files and browser cache. I love CCleaner and was very excited when I learned that they now have a version for Android. It’s still in beta testing, but anyone can download it and try it. Just like on PCs (I learned that they have a Mac version too!) CCleaner can delete application cache, browser history, clipboard content, old call logs and text messages. It works just as easily on Android as it does on the PC. Just click the analyze button, wait for it to scan your device, choose what you want to clean and then click the clean button. The first time I ran it, I had just uninstalled 2 to 3 old apps that I no longer used. CCleaner found over 81mb of left over files to clean up, giving me more memory. Check out these screen shots…

CCleaner is simple to use. Click to scan, then click to clean. I don’t like to delete my call logs or SMS messages, but if you do, you can choose to delete all of them, or individually by person.

ccleaner-3 ccleaner-4

CCleaner also gives you a system info screen that updates in real time to show your memory and storage capacities. It even has an application uninstall interface.

As I mentioned above, CCleaner for Android is currently in beta testing, but anyone can download it and use it. I’ve been using it for a couple weeks and haven’t had any problems with the beta version. A clean smartphone is a happy smartphone. Check it out.

Visit Piriform to download the Android beta of CCleaner.

Nice first effort. Hope they continue development and put more features into this, similar to
    the PC version

@p51d007 What other features would you like to see? I can’t really think of anything that it doesn’t already do…

Julie do you sense any risks to letting this app do the cleanup vs. removing ‘debris’ manually? It reads like you can set it to clean lightly or deeply?

@Lex I’ve trusted CCleaner for years on a PC, so I see no reason to fear using it on my phone. Of course you could clean the junk manually, but who has time for that? ;)

Can’t download. I am not sure if the beta is closed for now or what?

@Shawn did you join the beta group? There’s a link on the Priform site.
